This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I hope they find him.
Did you have to trailer somewhere to ride?
I know what you mean about the reins being heavy. My older nylon trail bridles don't have that rubbery coating on them and they are lighter I think. I also don't like the fact that the snaps on the ends of the reins are attached with a buckle. That adds extra weight too. I'm thinking of removing them and having the snaps sewn on. It's not the best solution, but it's better than what's there.
The reins on my old bridles are doubled, stitched nylon their entire length and they have a loop at the ends that you stick throuth the eyes of the snaps and run the reins back through, so if one of your snaps ever breaks, you just un-loop it and put a new one on without having to cut stitches then re-sew. The old guy who made them really seemed to think of the little details when he was making them. It's hard to find that kind of craftsmanship anymore.
Poor old Homer, he really is just a lost soul. It's so strange that he does that, and he seems to be getting worse about it.
They didn't find him, but hopefully someone will call.
We are loading pictures now. Between us we took 80 something. We won't post them all:).
It was really cool, We could see Mt. St. Helens, and Mt Rainer from one of the places where the trees had been cut down, and the pictures kind of show how far away they are.

I'm sad and nervous, but a bit resigned about this latest escape. We've done all we can to keep Homer from running. He panics when we're not home. We know he'll even blow through the hotwire, that's why we left him in the house. If he's willing to push out the screen, which was not easy, and scale out a window, he'd dig out no matter what improvements we make to the fence.
We drove the main roads, he's at least not already dead on the road. Our hope is he'll make it someplace and someone will call. He's got his phone number on.
The ride today was fabulous however, not to be diminished by this!
Ecurbh and I waving to everyone:)
Straight trees:)
It took someone from OK. to get these people looking up:)
This is just one of a few places you could see Mt. Rainer. For those who don't know, like me, this is a volcano too, just hasn't blown for a while:) This is the highest point in the Cascade Mts. 14,406 ft. On our ride we climbed from 350 to 1200. Heck of a climb.
One from my camera:)
It's far off, but this is Mt. St. Helens.
You can sort of see the trail we came down. It's a switch back, and this hill is really pretty steep. This is in an area that has been clear cut and replanted, you can see the small trees growing, about 1-2 years old. I've learned so much about the logging industry, it is very interesting.
We crossed alot of the bridges, and the horses did fine with all of them. This one was particularly hairy, it wasn't over when it was over...there was more after the rails ended:)
Becky
It's 82 now, but for the ride it was very very nice. I never broke sweat:), altho the horses did.
Becky
"Homer, please call home!"
Hopefully he'll come trotting in, none the worse for wear. Is it thunderstorms that frighten him?
Great pics. It looks so pretty there.
Jenny
It is very pretty:). Is Travis home? Did he see the pictures of Mt St Helen? I thought he might find them interesting since he's been there? We posted alot of them yesterday, after we got back?
We are ordering pizza now...uuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:)
Becky
Yeah he's home. He hasn't looked at the pictures yet, one of the guys he works with is here visiting.
pizza sounds yummy. :o)
Tucker is eating carrots now, he likes them.
Jenny
Now you know, if you feed him too many carrots he will turn orange:)
Tell Travis to get up and come look at my pictures:)
Becky
Thanks :~)
Is there a patron saint of bravery? Obedience? :~)
No thunderstorms today. Lots of things frighten him, and if we're home, he just comes and clings to us, if we're gone, he panics and runs. He clawed right through the screen.
Mia seems like a real sweetheart. A perfect match for her rider.
And Arabs have lots of greys. Which is another reason some folks consider Arabs as "high maintenance" horses.
I remember someone complaining that Arabs weren't practical because "they need all that extra attention and affection".
Courage - St. George, also patron of England and Greece.

For obedience, I think I would go straight to the Blessed Virgin . . . model of obedience.
As I said on the HH thread, for whatever reason, I'm not full of dread, I'm still somewhat hopeful, so maybe we'll hear today. I think he's lived his whole life this way, running, and survived all the risks so far. He'll seek someone out, and maybe then they'll call, if he's still got his tags on.
Hopefully he'll be back soon . . . especially with the tags to help.
