This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Wow, great fair pictures too! I'm glad it cleared off for y'all, even if it was still a bit muddy. We don't have any mud around hear to worry about. We just worry about getting dust up over the tops of our shoes! As the old saying goes, "It's so dry around there that the fish have ticks". ;o)
Good morning :~D - We're up sipping coffee. Big trail ride today.
I like "let's see what happens" experiments. Enjoy you ride.
Morning. I really like my bridle (once I get it on the horse) and she seems to like it too. I don't like the reins though. They just seem too big and heavy and don't slide like I'm used to. I notice that Sarah Lee tends to neck rein better, so that is good . I'm going to keep working with them awhile but I'm going to have clips put on my old ones, I think. Funny, I like new stuff but hate change. I'm still trying to work the bugs out of my new saddle so maybe I'm adding too much at once.
This has been quit an experience!!!

Are the reins that come with your bridle, nylon split reins?
I didn't like them either and don't use them. But, I thought just the opposite of you, I thought they were too light weight:), and I don't like split reins anyway. I had a pair of braided black nylon barrel reins that could be let out long enough to work for trail rides.
I didn't know you got a new saddle. New saddles do take some getting use to. Funny how familiar our backsides can get with the feel of a particular saddle:)

I think the lets see what happens experiments are interesting too. But it's very obvious it would have taken a lot longer for the forrest to repair itself. Where they have cleaned up and replanted, to the inexperienced it looks pretty natural already.

Fantastic pictures of the volcano and the beautiful surrounding terrain. Have a great time on your trail ride.
It is going to be very hot today again. But at least no rain!
I'm hearing from home that it was 102 yesterday, with the heat index at 110.
I think it was like 76 here yesterday, and is suppose to be in the low 80's today.
Becky
They are split. It's a synthetic leather. Kind of rubber feeling. They are wider and heavier. My old one is thinner
The saddle...hmm. It was my husbands. It's a better fit and comfortable but I have to customize it and that irritates him because "it's a perfectly good saddle the way it is':') I'm used to a Texas Tee on the right. It buckles. I'm used to a wool cinch. You have to stand in the saddle because it gives a little when I get on.. Kind of like driving a new car and figuring out what all the buttons do. I'll get it though:')
It's already hot here too. I'm staying in the AC though. I've picked up a summer cold.
We're getting ready to go here - talk to you all tonight!
have fun:')
I put mine on him but couldn't figure out where the bit went. He was getting fidgety and I didn't have the patience to mess with it. Next time I'll mess with it first.
I know. Mine is very patient but they all have their limits. I fiddled with it too but yesterday I had to take it off twice. She gets such a surprised , what happened look on her face when I take the bit out though:') Overall , I'm happy with it.
Becky, are you up there with Hair?! I'm sooo jealous!!!
Yup! Becky is up with Hair. :-)
Looking forward to pictures! I should also get a map of the trails over there one of these days. Trail maps, I can usually interpret...road maps are another story, for some reason.
Pony is complaining a bit, though not continuously. I went over and talked to her and petted her for awhile, but I don't think it helped.
Hi mom. Just got home from work, YUCK.
How was your ride today?
I don't want to hear about the weather there, it's suppose to be in the 100's all week this week. It's going to kill you when you get back, enjoy it while you can.:o)
What else do you have planned for the rest of your trip.
Did you take your camera?
Jenny
Hey, Jen:)
We just got back from our ride today. It was great. We did about 15 miles.
Yes I took my camera, and Hair had hers. She is going to make me a CD of all the pictures we took.
But a sad thing, we got back and one of Hairs dogs, a stray they adopted a while back, pushed out a screen and took off. Hair and ecurbh are out looking for him now, and I am here to monitor the phone. He has a tag on with their number. He has done this before...
