The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Be a good color for an Arab that actually was in Arabia. ;-)

And another feature on Arabs in Arabia is even under that white hair, they have black skin (you can see that on her face) so they don't sunburn. Light horses of other breeds that have pink skin will sunburn on their noses where the hair is thin. Purebred Arabs in the Arabian desert, they really prize horses with no white markings or pink skin, particularly on the face.

Great pictures, I was so much looking forward to tales of your adventures, thanks! Be careful on the mountain. The trees and the riding trails look like absolute heaven.

I have pictures to post later, I am keeping up with ME stuff, and anyway I just want to hear all about your trip.

Every thing is done in her shop, the phone co is coming Tues to install the phone and the credit card service will be ready by the end of next week. All she needs is supply's and she can start by the end or the first of next week.

Hope your having fun.

Finally made it to the fair today. It poured again last night and the parking lot was a real mess. Good thing I have 4-wheel drive. At least there is pavement on the mid-way and gravel around the barns. It was so hot today (90's), I felt bad for all the animals and kids having to dress up.

A couple of shots of the hitch classes I watched. First one is the unicorn hitch.

This was a pony hitch. They were really neat.

Dakota, a boy in my daughter's 4-H club riding PJ. He won the revolving Western Pleasure Trophy. He also won the revolving trophy in Western Showmanship.

Alison and Dakota in Lead-Line.

There were about 30 kids in Lead-Line and they all received blue ribbons.

Amy and Dakota showed in Generation Gap Horsemanship. Kids ride first one way of the ring (walk, jog, lope), then they switch to the adults.

Amy riding PJ

The winners!

Great pics! I loved 4-H when I was a kid, and went to States many times, and Nationals once. Nationals was really great because we got to go to Kentucky.

Thats cool. What did you qualify in? Only time I won to go to State was when I won pleasure pony at the County Fair. At that time, you had to be under 16 to show at State. I was 20. You were allowed to be in 4-H until 21.

Hi mom. sorry I missed your call, I was in the store. I'm glad you are having a good trip, but I miss you.

I played with Suzie yesterday. She's doing pretty good, so don't worry, dad's taking care of her.

I'm going to feed Tucker some carrots tonight. His teeth are really getting bigger, it hurts when he chews on you now.:o)

Dad found a nick name for Blake, it's Spock.:o), fits don't it.

If you're on here hit me back I'll be checking in.

Love you

Saddle moot trip to the volcano today!

It was steaming! - a little off and on ;~) A few patchy clouds in the crater, and the arrow pointing to the steam coming from the dome :~)

I posed a few tourists in front of it :~)

I think this one looks like an album cover for "St. Helen and the Mud Flows"

Some evidence of the blast zone, where trees were uprooted and lay flat, following the direction of the blast. In this area, a lot of vegetation has come back.

In other areas, it still hasn't...

This is a wider view of the hill above...

Other pictures on the way up and back, of the surrounding scenery :~)

This part was replanted all in Noble Firs... Which have the very horizontal symmetrical branches and make for an interesting looking forest :~D

I should have described a little more about what you're seeing there too. The volcano is to the right of the picture. on the side of the hill facing the volcano, the trees were blown flat by the blast and are laying there still, the trees on the lee side that were a little bit protected by the hill remained standing, but their limbs were all scorched off by the hot wind and debris. That went on for miles out from the volcano. Only the few miles around the mountain are now still left like that, the rest has been cleaned up replanted with timber.

The area inside the volcanic monument, they're leaving to see what happens naturally.

Those are really great pictures! Becky, I love the 2nd one of you where you're looking up with your mouth open and this incredulous look on your face! It's like you see on people when they go to the big city and look up at all the tall buildings. I'd have the same look on my face too. And the one of you next to that huge tree is great. It really gives us an idea of just how big those trees are.
