The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's just me. I am always asking people that are acting differently, what's wrong. I guess it goes with the trade. Be warned though, don't ask if you really don't want to know:')

The DMSO is an abbreviation for dimethylsulfoxide. It's an industrial solvent that is a derivitive of wood. It acts to help with quicker and deeper delivery of the steroid, but it itself also reduces inflammation. I've worked with it before in the lab. Awful stuff to get on your skin, leaves a terrible taste in your mouth when that happens! The FDA has banned its use on people, but you can still use it on animals.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't know where it came from. I've used it before but only topically. Had to laugh when the vet told the trainer it wasn't enough to make him REALLY reek.

Good Morning.

Going to be a real nice day here. I did get the lawn finished and trimmed. Now to get those flowers and my new purchased tomato plants in.

Have you been to Hocking Hills?

Many times. Every spring and fall for a week. It is a 5 hour drive for me, but well worth it for riding. Salt Fork is another great place to ride. In addition to those State Parks and Forests, there are some private place to stay also. Smoke Rise and Palmeroosa are two, that I have stayed at.

I have been great! This retirement is wonderful...

...thought about buying my own shoes so they would be handy when and if you can get a farrier out!

Yeah, that's always an option if you're using a shoe that your farrier doesn't use a lot. A lot of farriers charge the same no matter if they put on new shoes or reset old ones, but at least you'd have the shoes you need.

Morning... I'll be back to mowing today, if I can fit it in along with work and laundry...

Pistol is out of town, that is why he did not call us back. LM with his wife to call next week when he returns. Queen is getting shoes today. I checked the boys feet and they are still acceptable, it will be 6 weeks tomorrow for them.

Good morning:)

Slept in today. We spent the night downtown last night. Mack is getting our motocycles ready for sale. This weekend is our towns Green Corn Festival, and he wanted to get them down there. He had hoped to get hold of a man he knows that has a storage shed in town to put them in at night. He never got hold of him so they were going to have to stay out all night. So we stayed there to keep an eye on them. I got up at 6 to come home to feed, and sleep a while in my own bed:) I'll go back later this morning...

Anyway, it's very hot here. I need to do some mowing too, but probably won't get to it till after this weekend. Next week, I'm going to find some way to get the saddle on my horse. I could ride, just have problems getting the saddle on. That's the only thing that makes my arm hurt...I'm wondering if I saddled from the off side, if that would help. It's the twisting motion that hurts my arm, I don't know if it would twist from the other side, I'm going to give it a try.

Now would be a time it would be nice to have a horse trained to kneel down lower.

Don't hurt yourself, is all I have to say... ask for some help getting the horse saddled. :~)

Oh, I'm NOT going to hurt this arm again....This is just horrible, and I want it over. But, there has to be a way:).

The next option would be to park the trailer out by my mounting rock, (so i don't have to carry the saddle far), stand on the rock and get it on from there, I think that's a possibility...I think after a time or two, Harley would stand there fine. He may move around at first wondering what the heck is going on:)

I was telling Jenny yesterday, the week I'm at your house will be 5 weeks with this thing on the Dr. said wear it 6. I'm wondering if it will hold me up at the airport since it has a metal piece in it....Since I'll just be sitting, I may just pack it and put it back on when I get there...How much trouble do you think it would cause at the airport?

Becky

Oh, and I want to mention, it's not that Mack wouldn't help, it's just he's not here in the early morning:(. When he gets home from work it's just too darn hot, and doesn't really cool off till night:\

It won't cause any trouble at all if you take it off and put it in the tray they provide for metal things, like keys, or just hand it to them before you walk through the metal detector, then put it back on.

I figured it was probably just the timing issue with Mack... I was wondering if you could call someone else... one of the kids, or Celia... to come help, and go ride with you too, for that matter :~D

Oh, OK.

I thought they'd want to know if I had some sort of "weapon" hidden inside with the metal piece:)

I am thinking they've seen those braces before, and I'd just hand it to them or put it in the tray so you don't beep the detector when you go through.
