The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

How old is the kid. It's summer, school's out, he could just be with Dad...Mack took Charlie with him a lot in the summer. Is he maybe just now old enough to go and not be to big a problem.

Probably 12-13, he got out of the truck when they first got there, and then sat in the truck the rest of the time :~) Maybe they were going to go do something together after my appt... I know Mark coaches some boy's sports, baseball or something.

I know I have to keep him sound, we have lots to show you :~) We're going to do the same ride again this Saturday.

The saddle was slipping around because I've got the cinch so loose because of the rubbing issue. I've already moved it forward in this pic, and you can see from the sweat here how far back it had slipped. I had his breast collar on, but it's narrow and I don't like it so tight it'd bind on his shoulder when he moves, so it wasn't tight enough to keep it from slipping back. I tightened up the cinch at this last stop, because there wasn't an easy place to get back on if it wasn't tight. He did fine. No rubs.

I may switch back to this breastcollar... It's elastic on both sides so I'd use it a little tighter. I stopped using it before because I thought it looked like it hit him in the neck, but I can attach it to the cinch billits I think, and move it down that way. I like that it doesn't connect to the cinch between his legs. I've been trying to ride with the cinch further back to keep from rubbing, but the breast collar pulls it forward.

Just dark from being out in the mud... the pads are light like undyed leather - like yours was... when new.

He may have figured that you wouldn't know the difference, and rim shoes are more expensive. If he gets the same amount to shoe, no matter which shoes he uses, then he makes more money off the regular shoes. Just a guess.

I'd pay more though... I never know what he's gonna charge me, it's different every time. We think he just gives us a number based on what he needs at the moment.

It's just a puzzle to me.

That is why I always thought about buying my own shoes so they would be handy when and if you can get a farrier out!

I'm trying but I'm not grinning. It would be different if I was on the government teat but I'm not.

I admit that it does get frustrating but hey at least I know what a mouse is now. I only wish all my classes were this easy. LOL, last week we learned to use email in four hours. Our big homework assignment was sending the instructor an email with an attachment.

Some times a box of goodies helps with that kind of paperwork. Well, either that or a stiff drink.

LOL - you don't ask for much in a horse do you? Those bloodlines are really good for working horses. A Poco Bueno mare I had got bored real easy on the trail, she thrived on challenges. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Business problems, personal problems, divorce in offing?

When my vet showed up with his son, turned out he'd gotten a divorce and it was his weekend for custody.

Hoping all turns out well for your farrier anyway.

You think that would be more efficient than just guessing and wondering about it? Heh... You're right, it probably would. :~)
