This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Nope, left messages for the Pistol for the boys and the local guy to do Queen. Will try again tonight. THe boys should be OK for this weekend, but Queen needs shoes. Maybe I should just get some of those boots for her and not worry about putting shoes on her as infrequently as she is ridden.
Some people I ride with occasionally have been there. Isn't it down around Birmingham somewhere?
Might not be a bad idea. She'd probably just need them on the front, but you need to get her feet trimmed up good before you measure.
Oak Mountain? Yes it is southside of Birmingham, down by Pelham.
She was trimmed 4 1/2 weeks ago so probably needs it again. I will have shoes put on her this time and get boots for later, in the mean time I need to learn to do the NB trim on her. You need to come do Talladega with us sometime.
Would it be better if I came to your house and we left from there or would it be closer for me to just meet you at Talladega. I have no idea how to get there.
They have rentals at Oak Mountain. I'll try to get up there real soon. Thanks for the info.

Very handsome horse! I just purchased a bay roan foundation quarter horse for a friend. Need to get some updated pics of him, as he was pretty rough looking when he arrived at the trainer.
I've never owned anything but Arabians or half Arabians but this guy really has me sold on the foundation QH's.
You have to go right by my house on the way so you might as well come here first. If you wanted you could come the night before and we could leave early the next morning.
Rocky sure is a pretty thing! He's a hunk!
I might just have to do that one weekend. If I borrowed my BIL's big truck, I could bring my 3-horse trailer and we could all 3 go together.
That would be fun! They have camping there also but it is all primative.
Did the chiropractor guy ever come and look at Belle?
I am planning to put some on my ranch by the spring of next year. I used to ride alot, but haven't done so in 25 years. I am looking forward to it.
'Twixt Brenham and Columbus, west of Houston.
Good Deal! Horses never seem go get out of your blood once they get in there do they.
What do you want to do with your horses when you get them, and what kind do you want to get?
I'm notsure what type. I love heavy bodied horses such as the draft horses and quarter horses. I would love to get into Gypsy Vanners, but still not sure I want to pay the price.
I'll probably end up with a grade or QH as they seem to have better genetics than thoroughbreds. I trained for the 3 day event when I was younger and used heavy bodied mixed breed jumpers and I suspect the horse will have to able take some rough riding as I still like riding fast through forests etc.
Well, I don't think you can beat a Quarter, especially foundation QH, for great all around, sensible minded horses.
