The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

You're right... too young for it to be arthritis, especially in a small dog. I wondered if she were older.

Pepto-Bismol makes for bad BM's in animals or people!

I am off tomorrow to San Antonio to ride with friends as I usually do on Thursdays, old friends at the Fort Sam Houston Stables. So many nurses and doctors at the Brooke Army Med Center have horses there, that we ride with, get lots of news.

Am taking pictures of Buck in with me so I can brag about him. Would like to take him in and ride there but it's about 1 1/2 hour drive and I start at 6 a.m. to get there and so it's too much trouble to load up and then unload etc. etc. but have my 'brag pictures' of Buck and also my granddaughter's prom pictures.

I am just going to bore everybody to death. Luckily they are good friends.

What an adventure. I'm glad everything turned out ok for yall. I have to admit that I chuckled thinking about being out, lost in the forest with my husband , where his cell phone was out of range. I might have just had to camp out for the night:')

Never too many pictures. I was looking at them and I like the way she sits.

Oh yeah. It's a survivor kind of show. Each week they eliminate. It's cool to "watch".

Jenny and I went shopping today, and I've got all the stuff bought I need for the trip:), jeans, shirts, socks, etc...

Have you talked to Tiff...when are you picking up the horse?

Anymore plans set about when and what is going to take place?

The holiday in the middle of the week has me all screwed up on time, it's only a week away now...

Becky

I don't know how many are keeping up with Barbaro, but I added some more info to this thread; http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1640010/posts?q=1&&page=301

Barbaro, who had a cast change on Monday, had to have another one today. He seemed to be pretty uncomfy. They couldn't figure out why, but the healing process is still looking great! On Monday they had to replace 2 screws in his pastern joint and added 3 more for more "help". I noticed in the pictures on the University of Penn web site that they extended the bandage all the way up past his hock. I wonder if that caused some of the discomfort.

Good :~) Glad you got your stuff :~) The holiday has kindof goofed me up too... don't know what day it is.

I've been giving scheduling some thought, and putting it on 'paper' so we can really try to work out how we think it should go, anyway... as we know, sometimes plans go right out the window, and sometimes that's just as well :~)

Thought is to pick up the horse Tuesday afternoon, the 11th. That way she'll be able to have hung out in the back forty a good 24 hours and the horse dynamics might have settled down by the time you get here. But I haven't talked to Tiff yet.

There was talk earlier of a ride maybe this weekend on Saturday with her.

Anyway, back to the "plan" I am thinking we might take things slow on Thursday, since you get in so late Wednesday night and we all may be either wired, tired or both :~D

So if we sleep in and hang out Thursday, maybe goof off and lunge or ride horses here, and just visit in person, we'd be ready to go riding for real on Friday. If we really want, and it's not too hot Thursday, we could possibly get it together to go on a late ride on the short loop, if we feel excited to go somewhere thought it'd be worth the trailer trip. - but we can play that one by ear. Ecurbh might make it an easy trailer task by sitting that one out.

The schedule is a lot tighter than I had been imagining... because of flight times, the 12th and the 18th don't count - they're spent traveling. So ecurbh and I talked about how to make a schedule kindof work, and we've decided instead of three shorter rides on consecutive days, maybe we ought to think in terms of two longer rides (the 8 and 15 mile loops), since getting them to and from the forest will be a task in itself with making two trips, we should make the most of each ride.

Anyway - what are your thoughts?

Butting in here for a few minutes. Anyway you can borrow a truck and trailer and/or driver so that you can all go at the same time? Does Tiff have a trailer?

You guys are going to have a ball :)

I"m wondering if he will always need a brace.

Tiff does have a big stock trailer that could carry everybody, I'm just not sure our truck could pull it. Not sure if the ball height and the brake hookup is the same, or if our truck could really handle it. Hers is a really heavy trailer. They have a newer one ton truck to pull it, but I think that's really pushing my luck to borrow for a week :~D I'm hesitant to ask to borrow stuff, it was enough of an ethical dilemma to ask to borrow the horse.

Bob's trailer is a gooseneck so we couldn't borrow that, even if I'd have the courage to ask :~\

It's not far to the forest, it's only a seven mile trip. It's just a bit of a juggling demonstration. The way I figure it, we can take Bay and Cyn up, leave them with me or ecurbh, and one of us will drive back down to pick up Becky and Kat while the other stays there and tacks up horses. Becky can stay here for the 20 minutes or so and FReep, or get her horse ready to go. On the way home... we do the same thing in reverse... maybe bring Becky home first.

Oh, okay. For some reason I had the idea it was a bit of a haul to the forest area. Probably because it doesn't seem fair someone has that gorgeous country virtually right in their back yard :)

He may. I don't think there is any way of telling yet. He has such a long way to go. The healing seems to be going well, but it takes such a long time!!! The last xrays that the university web site has up shows that the brace inside is bending, but apparently that is ok. To me that looked bad, but since I really don't know what I am looking at.....
