Its been so busy that I haven't been able to get away much except for long weekend... Now, things are slowing down and all the places I'd been thinking about escaping to are in hurricane territory. LOL. I may hafta head in the other direction. West, maybe.

"Little boys, OTOH, require you to come to them and do something when you get there."

Or do things FOR them. Or help them do something to the extent that it would have been quicker and easier to do it for them. And ask the SAME questions over and over and over....and over and over and over. And when it comes to food, movies, activities or whatever, his favorite thing to say is "I don't like that." Never mind that he never actually tasted it, tried it, experienced it or even had any idea what IT was. Dawn would pretty much try ANYTHING...at least once, when she was a kid. Not Tyler. You either have to trick him or make him think it was his idea. And talk! OMG, that boy could talk the ears off a jack@ss. Of course, he comes by that honestly, but it seems to escalate with each generation, and it is somewhat unusual for a boy, at least in my experience.

On the positive side, the boy has no use for a lot of the usual childhood foolishness, like cartoons (a good thing these days, since most are either obscene, generally inappropriate for children or politically corrected). His favorite channels since he was barely toddling have been Animal Planet, Discovery and anything to do with storms. He has a passionate fascination with the Titanic, tornadoes, reptiles, sharks and even history and will watch documentaries for hours.

On the other hand, he is completely self-absorbed. I guess a certain amount of that is normal at his age, but he has already determined the conditions under which he will get married and that he doesn't want children. Obviously, kids do change, but he is certainly adamant about it, and in a serious way, unlike the "I hate girls" phase that most boys go through.

I recognized early on that I had met my match for stubborness in this boy.

"Will you be able to put a bandaid (duct tape, sumpin) on it for a few months ?"

I don't know. I can't do much of anything on it any more. Sometimes it won't even open a browser window. I've needed a new computer for some time anyway, and had planned to focus on that after Tyler and Dawn's trip, but now things have changed and I just don't know when I can deal with it. I might take it and have somebody look at it to see if it can be patched up temporarily, but I don't have real high expectiations.

I betcha it can be patched up as long as you can find someone who knows what he/she is doing.

Wish our ratty still had time to hang out, he'd know what to do.

I got a call from Nully earlier this evening. He's been in the hospital for some testing since Monday. Keep him in your prayers. He expects to be home tomorrow, but he's jonesing for FR bad.

Darks, you are NOT to booby trap his basement in his absence.

I never did get around to posting pictures of the possum critters...not that I took that many, what with the computer acting up and all. I got those put on the same disk as our trip pictures. Here is the first one. Let's just say that they were considerable larger by the time I got the last 3 evicted.

"Can you share what the problem is?"

Something to do with stress associated with a nagging beneficiary and some odd doings in his basement.

Seriously though; I expect he'll be around tomorrow. It'd be better for him to explain it...that is if he can stop muttering about mischievous wraiths and doddering old beach buzzards.

Does frostbite hurt less when one experiences it every year?
