WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

I actually prefer America's birthday anniversary celebration...but that's too long to say. And I could care less how liberals view it or what they call it. It's a red, white and blue day to me!

Interesting day. Our candidate is originally Asian but was raised in the Midwest, steeped in Midwestern culture and heartland values. The goodwife mentioned to him how much I miss the heartland and he said he missed it too. (Encouraging in a way, seeing that I left over a decade before he was even born...)

Parade itself was interesting enough, meeting some of the Democrat candidates for the first time (and some Dem incumbents we know) and running into some of our moderate- to rabid-liberal friends supporting the Dem candidates.

After the parade we stopped in at a little (and I mean tiny!) burger/shake stand in a nearby (~7 miles away) town for a bite. When a few local (small town) families with children stopped in, it took me many years back. At least until the boomer parents wearing tie-dye and tatoos stepped in the door, shattering the image. Bummer; sometimes I really detest the Seattle area.

So I rushed right home after that and work on the computer setup in this house. *\;-) A project at least a couple of years in the planning, but with no time for execution until now. *\:-(

Finished bringing up and installing a 'new' (it's so old I can buy one at a used computer shop for $40) headless (no monitor, keyboard or mouse) machine named "ceol" (Gaelic for "music") that will live for a time near the stereo and whose job will be to "rip vinyl," i.e. to digitize my large, heavy and outdated collection of LPs and 45s. While I still have a turntable capable of playing them...

No ice cream but I do have some of these.

Just one broken case though. The stores cleaned us out this year.

You'd better take your vitamins. One of the ones I take is Lecithin, said to be good for memory function.

I try to get my wife to take them but she says, and I quote, "I forget to."

Bingo!! Before the first 'd', and before the second last 'e' in 'Independence': "< font color="“blue”" >" It only appears in that form twice, the rest are normal.

I'm not near retirement, either. I should still be working. But since my brain decided to quit working in the way I was most comfortable with, and decided to take off in a direction all its own, I've had to make adjustments.

Being here, baby-sitting and having to face "common" problems with an "uncommon" brain reminds me that I really do need to live alone. :o|

I take 300 mgs of 5-HTP every day, plus something else, and somethng else, and something else, and frankly, it's all I can handle, since my medical provider doesn't allow for herbal medications.

If I took everything that everyone recommended for my memory, it would cost about $300 a month. And there is no guarantee that it will be any more helpful than what I already take.

But thanks for the suggestions. :o]

We make some under our own label and they are very popular around Memorial Day and Independence Day. But we had one school that ordered them every month. We found out they were giving them out on the 11th in memory of 9/11.

I asked them out of curiosity how long they planed to do that and they said, "Until the war is over."
