I was in north Mayo today - it's weird, because one can see the mountains on the Donegal coast there, but because of the Earth's curve, they appear as islands - the same is true for viewing the Mountains of Mayo from Donegal.

I haven't considered staining.
despite the fact that this will end up being an attractive piece of work, its appearance is completely driven by the close fuctional approximation of the original. the final color of the wood is irreleant to function, of course, so I hadn't considered it.
perhaps I should.

There is no inappropriate environmental temperature.
If I have been out working in the yard on a 90+ day, I might come in and guzzle a quart of water, but I still pour a cup of coffee.

If you seal it - the sealant should darken it to a nice tone, without having to worry about using stain.
