Be sure not to get a dog that needs too much activity, such as a border collie.

If you have a yard where they can run the activity concern would be a tiny issue.

Border collies like to herd small animals, and children.

They are not like the other collies. My wife has always had terriers, and been satisfied with their behaviors, as well as their protective instincts.

If the dog is inside, and you are not, and someone knocks on the door, they sound like very big dogs!

Terriers are real dogs and don't know fear, including during times of when they need to protect you.

Even my 4 pound terrier would go at a bigger thing if it was in protection mode.

The other type of dog I had thought about is a Greyhound. They are pretty dogs, and there are a lot who are rescued from track breeders.

Very hyper, the rescued ones have hip problems.

If you are thinking of that, maybe get a:

Weimaraner / Silver with pale blue eyes.

the reinforcing bands came out right purty

Is that nylon line pink, or is that just the lighting?

I have a snake that looks very similar but I don't have to tie him up with a rope.

Seriously very cool!

A friend has a "rescue" greyhound. He is friendly and calm, and very quiet.

If you want a dog as a companion, that would be fine, but I would not expect a greyhound to be very effective at intimidating evildoers.

No good deed goes unpunished.

I pulled into a local Subway shop the about 10 days ago, As I was getting out of my car, another car pulled in extremely quickly. Three Women piled out in a hurry and making a bee-line for the door, instead of going in and holding the door for them, I stood OUT-side holding the door so they could get in line in front of me. I thought I was being all gracious and stuff.

Not even a glance, or a thank you or anything, But that didn't bother me. They DID took an exceedingly long time ordering and the last one took an extra extra EXTRA long time, just staring at the menu and talking out loud to herself, she made her order stopped, changed it, asked questions, changed her order again. Now I was starting to regret the kindness.

Anyway, I eventually got my sandwich, and walked out front, the three ladies were peeling out, they actually cut off traffic clearing the parking lot. Late for work I thought.

When I looked at my car I saw why, one of them had thrown the car door open it smashed my mirror, left it dangling by the remote control wires. There was a vertical dent and scrape were the other cars door gouged mine. Mirror glass on the ground. A Biker came over and said he heard the smash, but when he walked over they were already backing out, "They booked it man."

Dealership says $1,100 to make it right, the car is brand spankin new. There was not even so much as a water spot on it.

Next time I go to Subway and there are some little old ladies rushing to get their lunch, I will probably hold the door for them and let them go ahead.

I was mad for a day or two. But I will eat that repair cost.

If I did something like that, it would be on my mind for a lot longer than a couple of days, the way I see it. I came out on top...

the pink cord, which is attached to the leather caps, is the "bow stringer" - a tool used for stringing recurve bows, particularly those recurve bows which are way too strong to be strung by one man lacking such a cheater ;)

the "boots" are the end caps of the "bow stringer" - a necessary tool for stringing any recurve bow if you don't want to damage it, and doubly so for so strong a bow - so as to avoid damaging ME

if you can afford one, or find a less-than-show-quality one, get a Welsh Corgi.

Believe it or not, it can be worse.

Sometimes you do stupid, expensive, and unnecessary damage to things you treasure, by yourself.

Then you don't even have someone else to blame. One learns to be careful.

My family chuckles at me for my caution, and my double-checking, but they are the ones going around saying, "Ow!"

And I still have to fix, at my expense, the things they break.
