Supposedly you need 13 "loci" for a complete match. If you have less it's only partial. If they have a match of 11 loci it could still be good evidence but if they have 6 or less it really isn't going to be very persuasive. I heard this from scientific "experts" making the rounds on TV.

Thanks very much for that explanation. I'm not really sure what a loci is and didn't know what they meant by a maybe match.

Just went and read a good DNA site. The 13 is the cutoff for establishing a match. But it goes on...."Conversly, if you can't get the 13 matches....you have the wrong person".

That's very different from saying we "almost" have a match.
