Three years ago at the beginning of the Iraq war, the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, Natalie Maines, told a concert crowd in London, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United Sates is from Texas." That statement set off a firestorm against the Chicks. Many Americans saw the quote as unpatriotic, especially in a time of war.
Subsequently, Miss Maines apologized for the tone of her remarks, but stands by her opposition to the Bush administration. Now the Dixie Chicks have a new CD which some stations will not play the lead single from, a song that says the Chicks aren't ready to back down from anything. It's a pretty good song. There is no reason not to play it. At a Time magazine event last night, I ran into Natalie Maines, who is not exactly my No. 1 fan. She chided me for predicting on this program that the new CD she has out would sell just two million units, which is pretty good these days. We had a discussion about it a few weeks ago. She saw the show.

"I still don't buy the whole 'death threat' thing - I have read somewhere that the sheriff's office where Natalie Maines lives has never heard from them concerning it."
Since it is indeed a pretend death threat, let's be complete and make it from an enraged white male, a European-American skinhead gun nut, southern white supremacist from the far religious right, clamoring for a theocracy, and maybe even a return to the good ol' days of slavery.
Did I forget anything?
Since Rupert is now bedding down with the hildebeast, perhaps bill has received new "marching orders". Except for Brit and a handful of others, Foxnews is tilting to the left so hard that they are in danger of falling over!!!

I think Natalie lost weight. They are getting a lot of airplay on the country stations that used to shun them
I don't know if their learning has increased any over time. But surely with their now aged act, they qualify to be known as the Dixie Hens.
lol...SERiously...lol
This is a comeback "test".
This is a marketing effort to see if they can make one last dollar.
Look at Jane Fonda who has now bombed royally with two recent comeback efforts.
Look at G. Clooney who is DOA at the box office and is now trying to rehab with a "safe" cause de jour. (nice for him to join the Sudan party so LATE.)
Actually, O'Reilly lost me when he went after the Swift Boat Vets. Haven't watched him since.
Its not a boycott, I just can't stand to look at the guy.
I was a DC fan up until they got ugly, now I can't stand to listen to them. Its not a boycott, I just can't listen to them anymore.
Never cared for them. Nothing's changed.
>>>My wife HAD every Dixie Chicks CD, and loved their music, After Manes rant against Dubya, she threw them all away >>>
Same here.
My (very) liberal father doesn't understand and thinks it's stupid to not listen to music because of something someone said. I said I can't help this uncomfortable feeling everytime I heard them now.
What's sad is those two very very talented sisters getting strung along by that stupid ninny they have singing for them.
I disagree. I think they are a pretty good group and very pleasant sounding. Prior to their becoming idiots, I really enjoyed their music. I don't anymore, because even though it is still good music, the politics gets in the way for me.
Which is too bad. They have come up with some pretty good stuff.
The Dixie Chicks seem to be entertainers of average or less than average intelligence compounded by being educated in our dumbed down government schools. More power to them. As for me I never heard of them until the controversy overseas. Like other Democrats they have ZERO class.
If they just make a new album and don't spend the next few weeks playing the victim, I will agree with O'Reilly. However, if they promote this album by reveling in their victimhood and dredging up the past, I will continue to ingnore them, because they will be jerks in the present tense as well.
Fair enough?
You are wrong!! Susan Sarandon made a fantastic comeback in "Team America". I just can't get enough of watching her part in that movie!

Wasn't she a member of F.A.G.?
Yeah, I was wondering what the deal with Clooney and Sudan was. That's only been going on for decades now and suddenly he becomes aware of the situation????
I work in a professional setting. If I make in a very agressive way my opinions known that offend my clients, I will feel the affects.
When will dumb 'artists' learn this?
You want to stand on principle, then stand on principle like all the other starving artists.
LOVE anything by the Smashing Pumpkins.
I'm trying to get my mind around that.
