I was wondering if taping or tivoing still gave them ratings. I was thinking we might need to tape and tivo the shows next year so that we can watch them at a different time, together and still discuss them and still have our fun without giving them any ratings.
Very cool. Thanks for posting that. Misterrob and Jonny, did you see that Elliott was honored on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives today? See Netizen's post #5,912.
Thank you! That is the BEST PICTURE!!!! That will keep me going until Taylor wins and you put up a picture of him in the falling confetti!
They have never released their vote totals, so we have to take them at their word.
I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure.
Thanks!
Funny, I was looking and saw an older site that hadn't been updated since the original finalists.
It had Chris at 1 to 1.9 somthing, Taylor at 4-1 and Kat at 1-1.
I just saw some math from the percentages last night:
50,000,000 votes
33.68%=@ 16,840,000
33.26%=@ 16,630,000
33.06%=@ 16,530,000
So really it wasn't as close as it looked. I hadn't really thought of this in percentages of 50 million, but it certainly makes a difference. I don't think the Idol totals show that much different than the Dial Idol or other data. Taylor fans have nothing to fear unless he falls on his face or pees on Paula. (Something that just MIGHT get my vote--jk Paula)
I don't really understand it but this may be what you want???

That was it (indirectly)
Thanks
Probably so!
I found this while doing some research. It was from May 9th, and was regarding voting by international fans.
International fans
you CAN VOTE!!! HERE is the official word on voting through Skype:
SKYPE/VOIP VOTING - the official word from the firm that controls voting for AI
THIS IS THE OFFICIAL EMAIL ANSWER I GOT BACK FROM THE PEOPLE WHO CONTROL THE VOTING FOR AMERICAN IDOL
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: I asked and was given permission to post this, from the voting company.
Skype. If you are using Skype to call the toll-free lines and are getting a thanks for voting message then your calls are being counted as votes. Skype/VoIP works by connecting through an aggregated originating number that routes through a set number of locations in the US. If your Skype provider is routing your local calls through a number which is in the same time zone as you, you will not have an issue voting after the show in your area. However, as there are a limited number of locations that Skype routes through, if someone is unlucky enough to be routed via an area (and therefore phone area code) to the one they are in, they may be blocked from voting when they should vote. All US numbers have 2 hours to vote no matter what due to fairness issues
its just a case of making sure you are calling when you are supposed to be, after the show. So, in essence, you can call for 2 hours using Skype and if you have been able to vote so far, you are ok. If you have been unable to vote using Skype, try either a different vote window or a regular phone. And, while there may be many people using Skype using a small number of originating numbers, I am able to tell these are Skype/aggregator numbers. Therefore, do not assume votes are being removed
if you are using a fair method to vote, your votes will be counted.
It seems that some national fans found a way to work it. I think this is fairly new as I have not found referrence to skype on any fan sites other than Taylor's and Katharines. I did find some interesting stuff about DialIdol speed dialing though.
It looks like the winner of this competition may be the one with the most well organized fan base. The phone lines can only handle so much, so it's turned into a strategic planning session for managing the system. If so, Taylor has it in the bag. I checked out his site, and there is now talk of organizing voting time blocks according to the your name in the alphabet. They figure they can manage the conjestion of the phone lines and be more effecient. They were even cueing the different times zones on when to begin calling. It was actually rather impressive! If the lines are at their max, it may not be about who has the most fans anymore, but who can plan the best campaign. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Looking into this stuff is kind of enlightening as to what it's coming to. It's also a little sad.
That site is a great blast from the past! Here is what they were saying back then.:
The largest sports betting site on the Internet, PinnacleSports.com has calculated individual odds on all 24 semi-finalists becoming the next American Idol. The oddsmakers at PinnacleSports.com currently list Ace Young as the early favorite to win the major recording contract at 7/2 odds (i.e. win $7 for every $2 bet) followed closely by Katharine McPhee at 4/1 and Paris Bennett at 5/1.
Chris Daughtry (8/1), Kellie Pickler (8/1), Taylor Hicks (10/1) and Lisa Tucker (11/1) also appear to be early contenders for the Idol crown. PinnacleSports.com lists Heather Cox (22/1), Will Makar (24/1), Stevie Scott (27/1), Jose Sway Penala (29/1), Patrick Hall (31/1), Becky ODonohue (45/1) and Mandisa (47/1) in the middle of the pack odds-wise.
The remaining semi-finalists have been listed by PinnacleSports.com as 65/1 long shots to be selected as the next American Idol, this includes: Ayla Brown, Bobby Bennett, Brenna Gethers, Bucky Covington, David Radford, Elliott Yamin, Kinnik Sky, Gedeon McKinney, Melissa McGhee a
(, but people will find any loophole to exploit if one exists.)
Yep! Even if it so new that only Katharine and Taylor's groups have found a chance to use it, next year they all will be. If it had been older, then everyone of the contestant's fan bases would have gotten a hold of it. I guess there's always something! It's a contest and everyone needs an advantage if they want to win. Whether it's right or not, doesn't seem to matter, to some people anyway.
More than a little said. I would say disturbing.
Re Skype, it is new. I have only seen article about it in PC magazines for about a year or so. I suspect the company was founded within the last couple of years. It's a legitimate service that, ironically, is a loophole to having to pay per-call charges for long distance phone calls.
ROFLMAO!!!
'Idol' News: Elliott Yamin Eliminated
Last night's "American Idol" was an emotional one indeed with the elimination of ELLIOTT YAMIN. The 27-year-old crooner from Richmond, Virginia got teary-eyed when it was announced that he would be leaving the competition and he received a standing ovation after singing his final goodbye.
A clearly moved Elliott was escorted off the stage before the judges could console him. Paula, Randy and Simon also comforted Elliott's mom, upset at her son's loss.
Elliott's departure paved the way for the final two -- KATHARINE McPHEE and TAYLOR HICKS -- to duke it out during next week's big finale.
It was a very close race this week, as the 50 million votes cast broke down to a 33.06, 33.26 and 33.68 percent split between the three hopefuls.
Elliott eventually managed to return to the stage to see Taylor win the coin toss and choose Katharine to sing first next week.
What is it about people that our nature is to take something that is meant to be fun, and light hearted, and polute it so? Disturbing!
Very disturbing. I wonder what they get out of it. The winner and runner up are probably set for life. The people who vote so obsessively get squat other than some highly temporary sense of triumph.
Maybe it's just the satisfaction of having pulled it off. Fleeting at best!
