But, my question regarding this site and the abuse button is: Do we, the regulars at ATRW, have the right to expect every post we hit the abuse button on to be removed?

Somehow, as much as I'd like to police our little community, I'm not sure WE have a right to that expectation.

It would be nice if the jerks stayed on the otherside and left us alone. But jerks being jerks seem to enjoy jerkhood and work to impose their annoying behavior on everyone.

I find 'thread hijacking' distasteful. I wish it didn't happen. But I don't know how it can be fairly policed.

There are many times when threads innocently drift off topic. Asking our Mods to become mind readers to determine people's intent is asking a bit too much, IMHO.

I so seldom go to the other side to read an entire thread, I probably shouldn't even offer an opinion on this. My habit is to go to the other side, read the article, skip the replys, and then move one. I think more and more people are doing this.

That seems to be my habit as well.

Are you speaking about troll posts on ATRW thread itself or the news forum? For the first, I think pretty much "yes". This is as Dolly says, a livingroom thread. We don't have to put up with garbage here any more than the Dose or the Hobbit threads do. (Note, I'm not advocating the squelching of constructive discussion and disagreement even on this thread. I am talking about trolls, hijackers and garbage posts.)

If you are referring to the News Forum then my answer is "Nope, not necessarily". The mods will make the ultimate decision and that's their role. And turning questionable posts or posters over to the mods for their attention and evaluation is better than just letting the crud stand.

That's what I do, sometimes I do read the replies, but seldom and when I do, of course I have to add my $.50 worth.
