Defense lawyers and legal experts say District Attorney Mike Nifong may have crossed ethical lines in public comments about rape allegations involving Duke University lacrosse players, potentially prejudicing jurors and setting off a media maelstrom.
Nifong says that he has done nothing wrong, though he has ceased talking with reporters about allegations made by an escort service dancer hired to perform at a March 13 team party. He would speak only about his handling of the case Friday.
"In terms of what I said, no, I wouldn't say I regret anything I've said," Nifong said. "I think what I have learned, basically, is that if you cooperate with the media out of a sense of duty to public truth, you make yourself a victim."
Local observers were hard-pressed this week to remember a case with so much back-and-forth between the prosecution and defense playing out in a 24-hour news cycle. It has some suggesting a judge should step in with a gag order.
Defense attorneys for the lacrosse players say it is their clients who have been victimized by Nifong, and they blunt criticism of their own extensive public comments by saying they are just attempting to limit the damage. Some also said photos, ATM receipts and other evidence they claim exonerates the two team members arrested Tuesday were given to the media only after Nifong refused to look at them.
In its ethical rules, the N.C. State Bar orders lawyers to refrain from statements outside the courtroom that they know might have "a substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing" legal proceedings. But once one side talks to the press, ethics rules say the other side can make statements "a reasonable lawyer" would believe are required to protect a client from bad publicity.

Were they even Crystal's platforms, I wonder. Yes, they'll blame the falls on the platforms. But a lot of my female friends will be harumphing. They know better. And they'll know they are being "lied" to if this "excuse" is offered.
We who KNEW platforms knew: Ya took 'em off to run or to walk any distance. You certainly didn't keep them on in a threatening situation, you took the shoes off, put them in your tightly coiled fists and AIMED, or STOMPED the dickens out of an aggressor. (Dittos on my old fabulous stilletos. :)

From the way NY times article is written? Framed? The article writer refuses to "affirm" that the "hidious" email was not in connection to what allegedly went down that night. That the email was a script tag from the movie American Psycho. The author has to know.
I thought it has been established that the boys must have been wearing their rape hoodies. Proper etiquette holds that rape jackets are to be reserved for more formal occasions.
It is common knowledge that stripping jobs and (non-therapeutic) massage parlors are fronts for prostitution.
I'm sure there are exceptions, but selling one's body for money is prostitution, any way you look at it.
My point is that the Drive-by Media can candy coat it and call a stripper (prostitute) an "exotic dancer", or whatever, but a whore is a whore.
My point also is if a conservative, Republican, or Christian leader were found to be at a party where an "exotic dancer" were hired, the Drive-by Media would call her a stripper. They're using the term "exotic dancer" to avoid diverting blame from evil rich white males.

Old Home week 2--Actually it wasn't parents at Duke but me and my husband. Both of us graduated in '85. There was very little PC during my era and I can remember scandals which make this one seem kinda pale in comparison. We were in the alcohol flowing freely era. Drinking beer and wine was 18, liquor 21 (not that anyone paid any attention to that). I don't remember any problems with Durham. Maybe with alchohol being moved off campus and the students following it has caused the problems being reported by the media but I hesitate to believe that there are as many town/gown issues as they are trying to get us to believe. The lyrics to any "Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts" song still pop into my head and are definately un-PC. I forgot about the AC in Edens, I remember showering and lying in front of the fan to sleep in September while the asphalt patches were melting on the parking lots and the smell of menthol wafted in from downtown Durham. I still hanker for a sweet tea and a proper pig roast though.

They ticked me off when I was still there and they hired McGovern as a professor. I also think E.J. Dionne or some other ultra-lib Washington Post columist, William Raspberry?, is on the payroll. I took one poly-sci class with some lefty dirtbag who had everyone over for pot-brownies. Took me years to re-orient my Dukie husband. I did enjoy taking the "young democrat" bus (no republican ones existed) to vote for Jesse Helms. Laughed all the way to the polls and back.
