Please allow me to vent here...

I just saw on Foxnews that President Bush's poll numbers have taken another dive. Gee I wonder why?

Maybe the average American isn't thrilled about our President hosting the Red Chinese..complete with marching bands..and a 21 gun salute.

Maybe the average American isn't thrilled that 12000 illegal aliens enter the US every day. Screw guest workers, screw the economy..if the terrorist sneak some sort of bomb in here..its all gonna be blown to hell anyways.

Maybe the average American isn't thrilled that Iran was named CHAIRMAN of the disarm committee of the UN..and we don't hear A PEEP from our President.

What happens next of course..is that Iran will call for Israel to "unarm" themselves of their weapons. Why are we hosting the red chinese anyways? A country where human rights DO NOT EXIST.

China..a country that threatened the United States.

Remember this??

“If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China's territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,” said General Zhu Chenghu.

I think the Whig Party of the 1850s is also worth revisiting to understand the current state of the GOP.

Maybe so....

The same thing is happening to the Dem's...

The parties have moved to the center as the electorate became more closely divided.

This will create a better chance for two additional parties to vie for the vote, and this will affect the majors.

I have never seen the public more equally divided, so I'm not sure how it will play out, but my guess is that a single third party may rise from the split and disaffected Dem's may move to the republicans. This is really what they want and it is the only way to remain the majority party. It has been underway for some time, but the bulk of the party faithful have not yet gotten the message as nobody has spoken about it. They are just vectoring in silence.

That's how I see it.

Good analysis. I think the dems have alienated much of their old base over the years with welfare give-aways and extreme liberalism. And you are the first person I've heard make that good point that Repubs are going after these disaffected dems at the expense of their conservative base. I think we could likely see four major parties in this country over the next decade or so, and I think that would be a good thing. It would also give independents more of a chance of getting elected.

I guess so, because very few have ever discussed it with me. I have brought the subject up a few times over the past few years, but nobody thinks it to be true.

It should be fairly obvious by now. When Buchanon deserted the party to run as a independent, the idea first crossed my mind, and like you I thought about the old Whig party, and the gradual change within the party. For me, it is right up my alley, because my politics are basically right in line with Bush. He is not a right wing conservative in the mode that has become popular here. I understand that, but he and I were once called Conservatives, and the other party still calls us that. The fact that I see things a bit different than the Conservatives here on the forum was once the accepted norm. Now we are both vilified by so called "true Conservatives". I am quite at home in the Republican party and always have been. I don't plan on going anywhere.

The party needed some new blood to win elections in 2000, and because of some situations like gay marriage and other issues, we had a big influx of religious and social conservatives and we even welcomed in some Libertarians..This influx of Perot types and the rest are what is causing the havoc we see today, but it could not be helped. I just got done telling one of them on another thread who told me that I don't belong in the Republican party that it was he who would likely be leaving if one of us did.:-)

With the right wing continuing to eat those in the middle and on the left, the situation has become intolerable and gone critical mass. We go through this every 15 or so years, but this time we have a slew of disaffected Dems to potentially replace any losses on the right. We will lose big in any case because a lot of these disaffected types will stay home, as they have a habit of doing when things don't go their way. As a result I think it is time to start this discussion in earnest, and decide what to do about it.

In any event, the Republican party may not be able to reform before 2008. I think 2012 would be a better bet. I have pretty much accepted that we may lose it all at worst, or the House and Senate at best by 08, so I am prepared for whatever comes. The party has to move with the momentum. and right now, we are moving center. As the two parties clash and then diverge once again, the idea is to scoop up a bunch of the more Conservative Dem's and move on, with or without the Conservative right wing.

He's not running, so whatever.....

In fact, this ties in with my previous statement. I don't think you will like the candidate that gets through the primary, if things play out as I suspect they will. There will be much more grief for Conservatives to swallow if they are going to stay in the RNC.

The things we will be doing to win, will not be to many Conservative's liking, unless you are willing to accept why they are being done, and that pushing Conservatism down the throats of most voters is not wise. You must feed it slowly or they choke.

On the China policy side, I watched the Q&A and speech of president Hu. I note how young he is compared to the norm, and I try to contemplate how long we will be dealing with him.

It will be a long time.

I think he received a proper welcome and that it was necessary to give him that respect. He is going to be there for at least two decades or more. Maybe four.......????

Clinton did the same things plus pleasuring interns in the oval office and had a rate of 62%. Are American people stupid or what?

Oh, it's far worse than needing a turnaround. Consider this: the republican representatives know damn well we supporters from the past cannot afford to allow the democrat criminal, anti-american enterprise to get back in power (for the very obvious reasons why we voted for pubbies in the first place), so they are taking us for granted knowing we are the sovereigns and have liitle choice but to re-elect the pubbies to power lest we die under democrap leadership that bows to terrorists and promotes the slaughter of the unborn while welcoming every invader who wishes to get the dole in America. Yes, it's worse than you can even imagine, because we have lost our sovereignty due to our lack of paying attention in voting over the last twelve-to-twenty-five election cycles. We are now sitting down to consume the crapped in bowl we have soiled.

Allow me to illustrate the extent of the danger if demcoraps ever regain control of state: the clinton administration made it clear that they believed equally powerful nations rather than America as a super power was their mandated goal (because the fools believe most Americans are liberal socialist like them); to promote this goal they allowed and even aided in Chinese acquisition of our missle technology, believing that the equalizing of other nations' ability to wage war was key to peace on Earth and good will from North Korea (who was given every opportunity to spend what we paid them off with and yet continue to develop the very technology we were supposedly paying for them to 'voluntarily' stop developing).

Such blind fools as democrats cannot be allowed back into control, ever! And that is why our current elected representatives believe they will be returned to the pork barrel gluttony they are wallowing in.

I'm a little stunned by your post. Bush has been one of our best presidents ever. Certainly, along with Reagan, the best of the past 50 years. And you assail him because of a bogus poll.

The trouble is this: the MSM has shown no shame in its partisanship with respect to this administration. Watching the news other than Fox, you would have no idea that Iraq is stabilizing, that they are beginning to stand up themselves, that they have a new government for Pete's sakes.

I take solace in this, if nothing else: this president doesn't govern by polls, this president answers to a higher power than Gallup or Zogby.
