The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

Oops. Sorry. I didn't see that entry on the timeline anywhere else I looked.
If she reported the rape at 1:32, why was she taken to a mental health facility, and why did the police "change" the incident report to include rape at 2:50? (probably more rudimentary questions, but I'm still on a learning curve compared to you folks).
yes i would argue that, because as i have pointed out, repeatedly, false rape allegations can be made against ANYONE, even saints. that appears to be something you cannot comprehend or will not admit to. my God the horse was dead a week ago or more. we are all painfully aware of your moral indignation that strippers were hired and liquor consumed by minors. GOT THAT POINT. now, do you understand that the REST OF US are more concerned with the criminality of a false rape accusation?
I was watching Fox News. Now I'm waiting for Abrams to start.
Shep was talking with that Joe prosecutor and Margaret ? -- the criminal defense attorney with the great voice.
I would like to see the written report from the mental health facility...that would surely say 'why' she was taken there first....
Because she did not tell the LE she was raped at first...
The defendants' attorneys have been saying that there was no DNA evidence that she had had sex at all, at least, with any other person, within the given time frame.
susan Filan is back with Abrams.......damn
No, if your daughter was the stripper.
Slide 7, #10 is interesting.
I thought the students at Duke for the most part supported the players. Weren't they wearing "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" tee shirts?
Well, with the use of a condom. Or using a foreign object as the means of assaulting her.
Yeah, but she called what the police found in Finnerty's room "a big nothing."
The NYT from April 4 and a letter from a friend in Boston dated September 2005.
Are trying to say that it was scandalous for the woman to be a stripper or for anyone to actually hire her?
Aha, the 'seat of the pants' prosecution.
Nifong better hope for some sort of DNA help or perhaps a planted shoe. If not things will get real ugly for him in Durham from both the Duke and NCCU sides. The wild card is that Crystal reportedly has already once considered dropping this charade. I don't see how she can possibly continue to lie and change timelines over the next year. I'll give it a month before she cites the stress, stops cooperating, and then files a civil case once the dust settles.
Yes, I understand. However, I keep thinking back to the hospital personnel who said her injuries were consistent with rape. The hospital personnel may have more information than you do. But maybe not. You seem to know everything.
Actually, I just read the copy of the search warrant, and it states that the AV told the responding officer at the KROEGERS that she had been raped.
It's in post #838
I suppose both could be considered scandalous by some. I guess next time they will at least hire a white stripper.
I haven't seen anyone bring this up but does anyone really believe that any of these guys would touch a stripper? I was there and partying pre-aids, pre-herpes, pre-21 drinking age and even then no one would have even thought about touching a "stripper". Besides, it isn't exactly the day and age when these guys have to hire sex.
Wonder why items to be siezed is listed as #'s 1 - 6 and then #10. What happended to 7,8, and 9.
Actually it does not. Read it more closely. The first sentence says they responded at 1:22am. The next is that she reported rape. It does NOT say she reported rape at 1:22am.
