The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

Jane, don't you think it's practically a rite of passage for boys in college to visit or hire strippers? I sure do and the reports coming out from these kids and their friends bears that out. As well, it was reported yesterday there are something like 14 escort services in the greater college area. As is typical of most colleges.
If the shoe fits....you must.....well, we know the rest of that one..lol
Of course, false accusation of rape is unacceptable as it appears to be in this case. From what I've heard, seems like the DA might actually be out to frame them.
Exactly. If that room hadn't been sanitized by now, well, I covered that already.
What show?
She killed me today. Just killed me.
But I am at a loss for how people can defend underage guys drinking and hiring strippers. It's sad that our culture has sunk so low.
I don't think anyone here is defending these boys actions...just acknowledging that these things happen at college campuses all across the US.....no mother in her right mind would condone it...
okay, i am glad you can see that it can happen to anyone. the false rape charge is what has everyone wrought up about this. and for most of us that is the overriding consideration. we are able to separate the accused from the circumstances and focus on the CRIME, which here, is the false rape charge. and i want to see her prosecuted for it.
I'm relatively sure thatshoe was throw away within a day or so.
i am sure there are plenty here that think you "deserved it" too! LOL!!! ; )
Peach does not care about wisdom!!
The shoe was listed as items to be seized in the March 16 Buchanan search warrant, the McFayden dorm search warrant (March 27?), and now Finnerty's search warrant. I sincerely doubt Finnerty has it.
I didn't think you'd been nasty at all. I guess being here in chat hasn't helped as much as I'd thought. I'll have to put this kind of distraction on ignore because the same people show up on every thread to lament social issues.
No doubt. :-)
I'm sure that most parents here could make the same claim. But I would be the first among them to ever make the flat out claim that MY children would ever stray from their father's and my teachings.
Whatever, there is no excuse to arrest a guy who has a solid alibi and who has never been even questioned.
I'll bet you money that any number of those kids are completely blameless in both a moral and criminal sense. It's been reported that one of the residents of the house didn't like what was going on so he went to his room, shut the door, and watched Letterman. Three of the team were in New York on job interviews. Finnerty is reported as being in town but not at the house.
I'll bet the list of kids who behaved in a perfectly respectable way is longer than those who didn't. Yet they've ALL been dragged through the mud by a community and legal system which cannot bother to distinguish between the two.
