The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

Maybe, just maybe, he gave his last bit of cash for the dancers and needed some money for Cookout.
I picked up an embarrassing nickname at the age of 19 in the Navy. It's still with me over 40 years later. :-)
Believe me, Reade Seligmann doesn't need to rob anyone.
And how many guys rape a girl, hop in a cab, and go for something to eat- GIVE ME A BREAK!!
Somebody slap me, I'm screaming. I think it was the person who moved the timeline to 11:30--she was raped and then performed (sarc) OMG!!!!!
I'm still wondering about the "it's only $100" comment the neighbor Bissey overheard and trying to fit it into the most recent facts.
If the Dukies did take their money back from the strippers, and Kim got livid and was screaming and yelling about calling the police or the pimp, I wonder if someone said, well let's just give them $100 for their troubles and to shut the whining strippers up. And someone else was arguing not to even give them that.
You've got freepmail
I think we are getting pretty close to it.
"Just give it to her and let's get out of here. It's only $100."
I think they were in a huff when somebody asked if they brought sex toys (I mean, they WERE groveling on each other, according to what the pictures say) and may have said, "Never mind, we've got a broom."
It spiraled out of control after that.
"Believe me, Reade Seligmann doesn't need to rob anyone."
Robbery isn't about money, it's about power. I haven't heard that one yet, but I'm sure it's coming.
Okay--fess up..what's your nic?
Oh, the stories we could tell.
Frankly, I've been heartened by some of the stories people have been telling, especially the "youngsters" on here; when you're old, sometimes you don't understand what's going on.
Have we ever found out what Kim was doing from 11:15-to whatever time Crystal showed up?--
Evidently sitting around with the guys.
She must not have felt very threatened.
There's a lot of power in calling false rape; as somebody on the web said, Look at what her power has done so far.
LOL!
Actually the affidavit says the guy held up a broom and said something like "Here, use this" -- I wonder if that was a lacrosse stick and, having never seen one, the stripper thinks it's some sort of broom and tells that to the police. Ya think these guys even own a broom?
I can't find the Seligmann search warrant
Here's the Finnerty search warrant which you may have already seen

I meant for the Taxi driver for the 1:00 a.m. encounter vs. the 911 call, which would be accurate.
I agree that the cell phone pictures would have accurate time stamps, although I can never get the rest of my clocks to match my cell phone!!!
I'd be shocked if they had a broom, from the looks of the shades!
And to not only miss four painted false fingernails, but to not see the other four unpainted ones the police left is amazing, isn't it?
Howlin, thanks for lending your local perspective and knowledge and expertise to these threads.
I used to prosecute, and one of the most important aspects of my case would be to try to analyze the defense--BEFORE indictment/information...
You're reading it! :-)
My husband took this one in Boston about two weeks ago:
Well, you're right about that. The nick isn't all that embarrassing. It's the story behind the nick. :-) DON'T ASK!
