My dad died yesterday. He just quit breathing. We have been working with him in home hospice for quite some time and making him comfortable in the process. He didn't suffer excessively. My dad was a wonderful man and we ALL are happy and overjoyed for him at the same time we sorrow. He worked his whole life to teach the Gospel to the unbelieving and did so with complete diligence and faith. We have absolutely no doubt he is in Paradise awaiting the day of Judgement.
He taught me so many things much of which has been expressed here on Free Republic. I haven't always been the most congenial personality like he was. Dad was a WWII Navy veteran on a troop carrier in the Pacific theatre. Men like him fought and died so we can have the nation we have. I brought my flag to school today, I took down the Mexican flag (I teach Spanish) and proudly put the United States flag in its place (both are large flags) and informed the students that today -- that flag was going to hang on that wall the entire day in honor of the men who fought and died for this nation and it was going to stay there -- no matter what.
The most important thing the man taught me was to learn the truth and then stand up for it -- no compromise. I try to fulfill that desire he had for us every day I live. May God bless all of you -- we're going to need it soon.
Very sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family. May your father Rest in Peace!
So sorry for your loss but understand your situation. WW2 vet and POW Dad passed in 1996. Mom, in much the same situation as your dad, passed 4 weeks ago. The generation that is swiftly leaving us left many of us with a great moral foundation. Many in our generation left behind our parents philosophy for a complete hedonistic point of view. Happily, many of our children are coming back to their roots and are, unselfishly, taking responsibility for the betterment of our country. May your dad rest in peace; he has certainly earned it.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one like that. I lost my favorite grandfather who was a WWII Vet as well back in September and it was tough stuff. May God bless your family during this hard time.
It sounds like God blessed you with a wonderful father. God be with you as you deal with the loss. I'm happy for you that you have confidence that he has passed to a better place.
Condolences on the death of your Dad. We are all diminished by the loss of such a man.
God bless you with comfort and strength, as He surely blessed all of us with your dad's presence on this earth. Your dad -- and mine (also a WWII Navy vet), and millions of their brave and corageous contemporaries -- fought for MY freedom, for YOUR freedom, for all of us. They will always be honored in our memories. My dad, thank God, is still with us. I am like you in that much of what I express here and cherish about the world, I learned from him. I empathize and sympathize with you. Your dad lives on in you and in the words you have written and will continue to write on Free Republic.
I'm sorry for your loss, FRiend. The pain will be less noticeable in time, I hope.
Prayers from TX
My deepest condolences for your loss. Paryers up for you and your family.
I preparing myself for that inevitable day. My parents are 86 and 80, and their health is failing. It is something we all must face, but nothing makes it any easier.
sorry about the double-post.
Thick fingers today...:-)
Thanks for telling us about your dad. May we even come close to living up to his standards.
