Taylor just needs to be Taylor. That's what people love about him.

Yep! It's hard to grow and improve with the rug being pulled out from under half the time. Look at that ghastly lighting job they did on Taylor. It looked like a UFO was trying to beam him up.

Well, as a man I could care less what his teeth look like and knowing that he is a diabetic then it certainly explains why they are not in great shape. Having spent time working with people from Europe I can tell you that there are plenty of people over there with bad chompers.

The only other things that I can assume here (outside of shallowness) is that appearance says something about the person. Take poor care of onesself and it reveals something about how one views themself much like spending too much time makes someone a vanity case or a metrosexual.

Sex appeal also helps an artist. Plenty of people have gone far by blending looks, sex and charisma with even mediocre talent.

I think Katharine will benefit from sympathy votes next week. People will think she was robbed this week and try to help her out next week. Will she sing in lingerie next week?

I would think David Foster's opinion ("Katharine has a great future" if memory serves) should count for a lot.

The thing that is weird about her is that whenever they show her in practice with whoever the guest judge is she is bouncy and fun and shows a ton of personality. Then she gets on stage and it's like she is doing a character or acting like she thinks and Idol should act.

If bubbly, fun practice Katherine came to the stage on Tuesday nights she would have many more fans, IMO.

Elliot is my choice of the five finalists because of his vocal talents and the fact that he seems down to earth and humble. My comment about his teeth was from a perspective of what the public looks for in a performer. It would be nice if that were'nt the case, but the American public, as a whole, is very shallow. If that were'nt so, you wouldn't have so many people having breast augmentations, face lifts and other plastic surgeries and so many young people with eating disorders.

This is suppose to be a fun show, and a fun thread, the show is still fun, but this thread is getting way to serious, looking for consipiacies and drunks:). Come on people, lets just enjoy it for what it's worth, the way it was set up to be and not look for what might be happening.

You nailed it, Becky. IMO, this thread started getting nasty a couple of weeks back with a lot of posts slamming Kellie. Now, the people that have liked Kellie have decided to slam a few of the folks they don't like. And some people don't receive as well as they dish out.

We shouldn't be slamming anyone, IMO. Say who you like, say who you don't like, but leave the personal attacks (against FReepers AND contestants) at DU.

I think what's being said here is that a lot of people (guest professionals on the show) have praised Taylor's musical ability and they can't ALL be wrong!

They all had good things to say about Kellie, as well. Remember, you only get to see what AI wants you to see. Remember the Ace/Queen controversy?

Taylor just needs to be Taylor. That's what people love about him.

I imagine he was trying to be "just Taylor" when he selected "Try a Little Tenderness" and rehearsed it, only to be told by the PTB to find another song with two days notice.
Also happened to him on Country Week, when he was going to do a Hank Jr. song and got that pulled the day before IIRC.

It's easy for us to question his song choices, but it seems AI is out to sabotage any real chance he has of opening a big lead with the voters. I would have to believe a seasoned performer like Hicks knows what he can do, but when you have to keep changing your style it's tough.

Meanwhile, Chris can do a ripped-off 21st century version of Walk the Line on 50s night, and Bryan Adams is ok but Otis Redding isn't on Love Song night???

Tenderness is most certainly a love song lyrically. If it isn't how is "have you ever really really really really really, etc. loved a woman"???

Nigel convicted himself by admitting they scrapped Taylor's rendition of Tenderness because it wasn't a "love song". Shows you how disingenuous AI is. They have truly jumped the shark this season.

I think Diana was robbed, but this year they have gotten too obvious.

LOL! The guys came to her defense when I said she had a flabby body, but I think lingerie would not be advisable for Kat to wear even aside from the morality issues. ;-)

I think Taylor was their turd in the punch bowl. They didn't count on his popularity exploding early on, Simon in particular. He and his pal Nigel have been mortified by the prospect of him winning ever since, as Simon himself has admitted.

No matter how many songs you speculate were or were not scrapped does not change the fact that Taylor PICKED the song that he sang and the way he sang it.

Taylor will do fine after AI because he is talented and the exposure will make him in demand. But even Ray Charles couldn't get all of his songs into the top 40. Some just suck no matter how good they are sung.

I agree and its crappy that when their songs are scrapped that they have to fall back on something the band already knows because of short notice. No wonder Taylor didn't look comfortable on stage the other night. You can just tell when he doesn't even like a song that he gets stuck with on short notice.

I noticed on another site that there is an email brigade going on.

Sure it counts. He's a top-notch professional. However, even top-notch professionals can only guess at who or what will hit with the buying public. In the end, our opinions count far more, because we're the ones people like Foster are trying to get to buy their product.

Speaking only for myself, there is nothing Katharine has to offer that isn't already on the market from people whose voices and performing skills I like a whole lot more. I'm immune to the other reasons some may be voting for her, a pretty face and a pair of big ones.

Its funny that they apologized to Katharine, did they ever apologize to Ace for their nasty editing during Queen week? I don't believe the did, but maybe I missed it.

Nope, they never did. They also didn't apologize to Kevin Covais for comparing him on screen to Chicken Little. I thought that was extremely nasty and uncalled for.
