I am 40 and a female, married to a 53 yr old man who listens to a different style of music than I do. (he fits your description of who you think would be part of Taylor's fan base.)

My 52 year old husband is "not" overly thrilled with any of them and he has stopped watching AI because it is getting boring to him. What little he has watched of AI this year, he liked Chris the best.

It took me about 2 years to get hooked on AI, while my husband loved watching it for the first 3 years. My husband has not bought a single piece of music (CD-Album-Cassette) in the last 15+ years that I have been with him. I am the one in our household who buys CD's of music I like or that we both like. I have a CD collection of over 500.

Also I know very well who Joe Cocker is. I listen to all types of music from classical to alt (with a little bit of everything in between). Joe Cocker is ok.

IMO Chris would be the moneymaker of the bunch due to the age group of fans who would like his music (13 to 50 yr olds). Taylor will sell but I doubt he would out sell Chris in this day and age. Like you said older folks don't go out buying CD's. I don't buy as many as use to, but what I have been buying in the past couple years is strictly ALT.

The problem is only one person can win. If the last two on the AI stage are Chris and Taylor. We will eventually see who will end up selling the most CD's. Chris will be signed and so will Taylor. I don't know if being the winner of AI is such a good thing.

The voting/busy signal numbers we are seeing really means nothing. Look at Kellie being in 2nd place. Who wins really means nothing. Rueben and Fantasia's CD are not doing that good. It could be that many of Chris' fans are not voting because they would rather see him get a deal that is not attached directly to AI 2006. Maybe folks voting for Taylor think that Taylor needs to win AI to get a decent recording contract. So many possibilities.

I feel Chris does not need to win to get a decent recording contract. Even if he got voted off next week he would still get signed.

I hear how people who don't care for Chris who say he sounds just like any other ALT singer, these people mainly don't care for ALT music to begin with. Well I feel the same way about Taylor that he sounds no different than any other singers who cut albums back in the 60's and 70's who are no longer on the current charts and their CD's are on the discount racks.

that's true.

Look at last year. I recall many people saying that Bo would outsell Carrie even if she won.

You are welcome. BTW, if you want to rip CD's and put them on iTunes to go on your iPod, use this link for Exact Audio Copy http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/. I beleive it gives you the option to load the LAME codec. EAC and the LAME codec are the choice of audiophiles for ripping CD's.

I wonder if that Top 4 would be the strongest Top 4 they have had. What is interesting is to note that there hasn't been a year with a Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, Bo Bice, Fantasia mix in the Top 4, when you would look at it and figure there's no way to feel good about one of the 4 being voted off. I wonder if that was by design by the producers-- that they only choose so many extremely talented people to be on the show per season.

Season 1:
Tamyra Gray
Nikki McKibbin
Justin Guarini
Kelly Clarkson

Season 2:
Joshua Gracin
Kimberley Locke
Clay Aiken
Ruben Studdard

Season 3:
LaToya London
Jasmine Trias
Diana DeGarmo
Fantasia Barrino

Season 4:
Anthony Federov
Vonzell Solomon
Bo Bice
Carrie Underwood

Season 5:
Kellie Pickler
Chris Daughtry
Katharine McPhee
Taylor Hicks

Do you have any song choices for Taylor from that short list available to them this week? There must be something comparable to something he's wsritten. I'm listening to 'Somehow' right now and every time it comes on I go look to see what song it is because it just strikes me as such a good song, slow and easy but drawing you in.

I think what hurt Bo was he got sick and his CD release was delayed. I have not bought either CD (Carrie or Bo's). I have purchased 2 of Bo's songs off iTunes. I am not a huge Country fan so I won't be buying any of Carrie's songs even off of iTunes.

I have only bought Kelly Clarkson's 2 CD's (her second CD is the best and I love every song on it) - 2 songs off of Bo's CD - and I have bought Absent Elements's (Chris' Band) self produced CD.

I see the same pattern as every other year. 2 stand outs. The others are not quite there. imo.

Kelly and Justin
Clay and Reuben
Diana DeGarmo and LaToya London
Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice
Taylor Hicks and Chris Daughtry

jmo

The thing about Chris vs Taylor though is this --- For 7 straight weeks now, every Dialidol (a statistical measuring software similar in concept to Gallup, but using actual dialed votes), and AT&T landline data show Taylor CONSISTENTLY on top. NOPE, HE HAS NEVER BEEN IN SECOND PLACE YET.

I may be wrong, but I think Dial Idol is not at all similar to Gallup and it's not really measuring through sampling. Dial Idol is software that lets people use their computers to send massive numbers of votes for their favored Idol to AI's phone banks. Dial Idol's numbers represent the actual usage of that service, which is a decent proxy for popularity as a whole and total votes for an Idol. It has a MOE of like 2% or so.

In season three none of the standouts won. Diana DeGarmo clearly was a better singer and a better musician than the one-note wonder Fantasia. I think Taylor is clearly the best musician and entertainer, but that doesn't translate into votes. Chris is a shoe in for one of the top two spots. Taylor is a longshot. Kellie Pickler is the most likely the frontrunner for the final two. Like last year, it will be a duel between a country girl and a rock-n-roll guy. And even though Chris is a much better musician, Pickler will sell more records. Bo was a much better musician than Carrie. But if you want to know what America wants, just check the charts.

I have bought Absent Elements's (Chris' Band) self produced CD.

From listening to some of their songs, it appears they are a Christian rock band. Is that what is on their album you have? I think it's really interesting that basically no one knows that Chris is in a Christian rock band. I don't know if that's because Chris thinks that's good business sense or if AI does.

I thought his came out on time. I know he was sick but that shouldn't hurt sales. I read the reviews of his cd and most were not good.

I've boughten 3 cd's of Carrie's and 1 of Diana DeGarmo and I can't wait for the Taylor Hicks CD to come out. I'm not much into country but I like Carrie's quite well and I really like blues. I sent Diana and Carrie's overseas. I plan to get one of Kelly's too. I usually put it on my computer then send the cd overseas.

Dialidol measures busy signals based on the usage of theri software that sends multiple votes to several contestants. YOU CANNOT VOTE FOR JUST ONE. To me that is a flaw, but you have to pick at least two and the line is busy for one it automatically tries to vote for the other and it just keeps doing that.

here is the radio station I listen to daily when I am in my truck.

Here is a list of the last 98 songs they have played...
http://y98.com/music/last_50_songs.shtml

The music is from the 80's, 90's and current hits, including some country.

Since I am 40 I don't think I fall into the GenX category.

I think AI requires that they keep a low profile on what they have done in the past music wise.

Christian yes but he is more Alt/Rock with the band being on the heavy metal side.

I saw a documentary on him. I can't remember which channel but he was delayed in recording it due to him being sick. I was a big subject in the documentary. He may have made the deadline if one was set, but the way I took it he was behind on getting it recorded.
