Part of another interview with Bucky:

Any one performance this season you wish you'd had a chance to do over?
''Oh Boy'' [during 1950s week]. I kind of wish I wouldn't have done it. Or I think I could've done a better job with it.
What went wrong?
I have no idea, really. When I first heard the song, I was ready to go with it. I don't know if I lived through it so many times I finally got tired of it. When it came time to do it, I just wasn't feeling it. I wasn't real happy with the outfit I had, just nothing felt right. And I think it showed.
Speaking of your image, I know you took some heat in the first week of finals when you sang ''Superstition,'' because you were sporting a hairstyle that Simon compared to Jessica Simpson's. I know we never saw that look on you again, so was that a stylist-driven decision?
Of course! I sat down in the chair it was our first time with a stylist. He was like, ''Have you got any ideas?'' And I was like, ''I just grew it. You went to school for it, so do what you can.'' And then they fluffed it out like that. The whole time before I went on, I was like, ''Does this look too poufy? Too big?'' [All the contestants] were like ''No, no, no, no. It looks good.'' And after I got done I remembered, Oh yeah, this is a competition. [Laughs] It was either all the way or nothing, so after that I took care of my hair myself.
What did they use to achieve that unfortunate look?
They took a couple curling irons, flat irons, all kinds of irons. [Laughs]

Be honest: Now that you've been eliminated, who do you think is going to win this season?
If I have to give you my honest opinion, I know you'll think I'm crazy, but I think the lead changes weekly. After every audition every week, there's a different leader. Sometimes the leader has been in the bottom three, they maybe just get through one week, and then two weeks later, they'll be on top. I really think it's that close.
Fair enough, but let's say tomorrow turned into Freaky Friday, and you were going to wake up with another contestant's singing voice: Who would it be and why?
Being the kind of music I do, the only other contestant who'd do that kind would be Taylor, so I'd have to pick him. Not that he's any better than anyone else there.
For all of Simon's griping about Taylor and his behavior on stage while singing, I would like to know if Simon would ask Mick Jagger if he were drunk or on drugs if he were appearing on idol? (and yes he probably is/was during a lot of his performances) But Jagger does some goofey moves himself and THAT is who he is. So, why not let Taylor be who HE IS?
Buzz is everything in marketing and Simon would be stupid not to promote an album. The album would go platinum but it might happen through non-traditional methods rather than the record company formula.
Plus, look at Taylor's endorsement potential:
1) Grecian Formula
2) Jack Daniels
3) White Guy dancing videos
4) Fashion
5) Cars
6) Instruments
etc., etc..
There are quite a few young people posting on the AI boards who love Taylor too. I honestly think that with more opportunity to hear good music that makes you feel good there will be more who will love Taylor's style of music. Part of the problem is that the younger kids today haven't been exposed to real music but over saturated with the likes of Britney, the various boy bands and all the other crappy stuff that is called music today.
I know that when Taylor sang Trouble Ray LaMontagne's album was about 163ish on Amazon and it jumped to 41 overnight. That should tell the PTB that there is a market out there for good music.
I had never heard of him before but after hearing the song I checked him out and bought the cd myself. It's really good. I also discovered artists like Amos Lee, Marc Broussard, Jack Jackson, Ben Harper, and quite a few more out there because of Taylor. I have spent lots of $$$$$$$$$$ rebuilding my music collection too thanks to the discussions of who Taylor should sing for 21st century week.
The more people hear these artists the more they would actually like their music. There's a reason that the music industry has seen a decline in sales, it's because the music industry left us for the easy buck. Make good music again and we'll spend our money on it.
Look at all of the guest artists they have been getting. It's the oldies and all of the remakes are of the oldies, the American Standards, the hits of the 50's, the legends, etc. The boomers and Gen x'ers have money and remember when it was all about the music.
Another thing regarding cd sales. I have bought more CD's in the past year due to idol than in the past 8.
The teens are downloading music and not buying much cd's lately especially what with the ipods. They want their music on the go and the ipod travels a lot easier and more compact than a cd player.
Simon would have asked Elvis if he were drunk too, I guess.
I downloaded the full version of that Bad Day song and it's damn catchy. I have to replay it a few times before I'm ready to hear something else.
Even for a columnist, that's harsh.
I have also purchased more CD's in the last few weeks too. I still have more to get too.
I know that downloading is the current trend but the quality is not the same. I like to purchase a hard copy and also download the mp3 simply because I know that electronic media does crash.
Oh I agree about the quality of cd's being better. I just meant that the teens are more into quanity than quality. My son stopped buying cd's when he got the ipod. I know lots of teens that have stopped buying cd's.
The reality puts Simon in a difficult situation. There is knowledge of the vote totals (at a minimum it is directionally accurate) out there. He is doing his best to undermine his marketing nightmare with comments like "that was ridiculous" when he really meant "that people like you is ridiculous". If it goes down as I think it will (Taylor going out #4 leaving Katharine, Kellie and Chris as the top 3) then the show is proven to be completely rigged. So, does he let it ride or do the pull the "producers option" lever and give the people what they don't know they want? Simon knows better....of course.
Wanted to respond to this part explicitly. I'm very close to this description. I'm 37 so a right-in-the-middle Gen X'er. I love music and have everything on my iPod from Chopin to The Cure to the Allman Brothers to Smashing Pumpkins to Pink Floyd to The Tragically Hip. I abhor popular music. Formulaic, boring, no talent, over-produced, poorly written, non-instrumental crap. What draws me to Taylor is his passion for music and artistry. It pours from his soul (thus Soul Patrol). You can see it on stage that he was born to do this. Give me a passionate person any day over one that is "designed" to just make music through crappy music.
You can buy the songs you like and skip the album filler which is the good thing about I Pod. It's what you put on the unit that matters.
Depends on where you go. I use allofmp3.com (Russian). It's cheap, legal (do a Google search), and you can get varying quality all the way up to CD. I have all of my music on my iPod and it is all using the LAME coded (Alt-Preset-Standard) which is a variable bit rate (VBR) around 192 kbps. I run it through very high quality earphones (Westone UM1's) and also through my Surround Sound system. I'm not a golden eared audiophile but I'm pretty critical.
True but as mentioned the quality is lacking on the ipods, but teens don't seem to care. Then again, a lot of the 'fillers' on Clarkson's cd have become #1's. I think the same might happen with Carrie's cd. There are several really good songs on there. But, I understand what you're saying. Once in a while I dislike a song enough that I won't buy a cd if its on it. Or in the past (tapes or records)
