My choices:
Katharine - As soon as I saw "Someone To Watch Over Me", I immediately thought of Katharine, though she probably ought to break the ballads mold a little and try for something more playful like "Makin' Whoopie". "My Funny Valentine" works well for her, too, if she's sticking with ballads. Honestly, this should be her night.
Elliott - Someone else who should shine this week, many of the songs are perfect for him, so picking one is tough. I'll go with "They Can't Take That Away From Me", "Night and Day", or "I'll be Seeing You"
Ace - With the right song, Ace could go a long way toward raising his stature. I'll suggest "Stardust" (though I'd rather hear this from a female vocalist... oh, wait), "Embraceable You", or "As Time Goes By".
Paris - Her versatility opens up pretty much the whole selection for her. My choice for her would be "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" if she's going playful, or "I Only Have Eyes For You" if she wants serious.
Taylor - "What A Wonderful World". 'Nuff said.
Kellie - The only song that seems to fit her style is "Baby, It's Cold Outside"
Chris - Don't know, don't care.
Carrie Underwood is living the dream
She still watches American Idol. :)
Chris has his song if this is the case -- Night and Day is on the 4th Album -- U2 did a rock version of that song for the Cole Porter tribute album.
Good article. Thanks for the post.
Jonny is a hugh fan of Carrie's so he should enjoy the article.
How do you mean?
That's what I said! :) Some of those songs are duets and they may be hard for them to adapt. The pickens are slim.
No Idle Time for Touring Kelly
She's working on another album. :)
Also a ton of stuff for Eliot, Kat and Paris to sink thier teeth into.
I agree.
(BTW, missed you around here :)
God, I hope Ace doesn't try to take on "my Funny Valentine" but that's where my ACEdar is pointing. He will try to out Constantine Constantine.
*Shudder*... attempts to "modernize" the standards rarely end well...
Well I don't know about "hugh"--I don't have posters of Carrie on the wall or anything ;o
But that is a good article.
I dont know where I will be in five years or if I will be popular then or not. I am just having a great time now...I am just riding the wave!
Carrie Underwood accepting her award for breakthrough video of the year as the duo of Montgomery Gentry applaud at the Country Music Television Awards show in Nashville, Tennessee.
The fact that Constantine did it, should be enough to keep him away from it. Too many comparisons already. I'd like to hear someone do 'The Way You Look Tonight'. I thought of Elliot for that one. It's something that younger people might recognize.
Kellie could do 'Makin' Whoopee'. ;)
Agreed, the whole Cole Porter Tribute album was "modernized versions of his song. Want to really cringe - Imagine Debbie Harry and Dourtney Love singing Cole Porter.
They should have named the album The Murder of Cole Porter.
That said, the U2 version was "bearable" and it sounds just like Chris.
N.C. 'Idol' contestant says Cowell's comments no longer helpful
The Associated Press
CHARLOTTE, N.C.
The latest contestant to lose on "America Idol," North Carolina's Bucky Covington, says the comments of caustic judge Simon Cowell are no longer helpful.
"It seems like he used to give advice, but now he doesn't give advice as he does try to put you down ..." said Covington, 28, a country singer from Rockingham.
This week, the "Idol" contestants performed songs from the rock group Queen, including Covington's version of "Fat Bottom Girls." Cowell called Covington's performance Tuesday "mediocre." He was booted off the show Wednesday.
"He told Paris: 'Weird.' What is that supposed to mean? You did not help her any with that comment. You should have just kept your mouth shut."
Covington was referring to Cowell's comments after contestant Paris Bennett performed Queen's "The Show Must Go On."
Cowell will never like singers like himself or contestant Taylor Hicks, Covington said.
"For him to like someone like me or Taylor is out of the question. No matter what we do, he's not going to like us. We're just not his thing," he said.
Covington plans to return home Tuesday. After a national tour with the top 10 finishers on "American Idol," he said he hoped to pursue his music career.
"I'll be taking it easy a little bit and hitting this tour up and, I hate to say it, but probably be looking toward Nashville trying to find some work," he said.

I like Bucky more and more as time goes on! :)
Bucky Tells Elliott: 'Don't Worry, I'll See You Next Week'
04.13.2006 4:07 PM EDT
Q: Does it feel better or worse that you were eliminated in a week where your performance was solid?
A: It's better. You know, I'd rather leave on a high note than a low note. If I'm not gonna win it, eight's just as good as four to me. I feel pretty good about it. Seems like a lot of people are like, "Oh, I didn't think you shoulda went." I'd rather have 'em say, "I didn't think you'd make it this far."
Q: Were you considering any other Queen songs?
A: "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," the one Taylor [Hicks] switched to. I don't know, Kid Rock had a version of it and everything and it was a fun song. I had a fun time doing it.
Q: So if Kid Rock is your idol, how come you never sang any of his tunes?
A: I actually entered some in, but they didn't clear. That's cool, though.
snip
Q: How did you feel when the twin-swapping story came out this week (see "Report: 'Idol' Finalist Bucky Covington Duped Police To Help Twin")? Do you think it might have hurt you in the votes?
A: First thing I thought was they're trying to pull up dirt on me and all they got is a car wreck in '88. They aren't looking hard enough. It's hard to say, though.
Q: Do you ever look at the different message boards and things about the contestants?
A: I look at 'em every so often. It's amazing how some people can love you so much and somebody else can hate your guts. But thank God people are different, 'cause if we were all the same, we'd be living in Rockingham, listening to country. And that'd be too crowded for me. If you hate my guts and love someone else, then thank you for making their dreams come true.
Q: Who are you going to miss the most?
A: Buddywise, I'm gonna have to go with Elliott Yamin. He was my best buddy through this whole thing. Actually I was leaving last night and he was like, "Man, I'm gonna miss you." And I said, "Don't worry, I'll see you next week." I was just kidding with him.

Bucky seems like a real good guy. And he is right about Simon this season. He has jumped the shark from caustic but truthful and helpful remarks to just plain rude and demeaning with no redeeming value. I think he hates this current group, especially the fact that Hicks is the clear frontrunner with the American public.
I think you are sooooo right! I think he and AI are being exposed this year, moreso than previous ones. jmo
