The most unique woman in Country right now both musically and in her physical appearance is Gretchen Wilson.

I agree. I love Gretchen.

Ace is a good singer. He may not be the best there, but he CAN sing.

Hildy, I agree with you. They can ALL sing. That's one of the things people like about AI. Compared to what passes for singing stars today, these contestants have much more natural talent.

What I'm looking for is (1) Who benefits most from being the Idol and (2) who would I rather see with more independence for a better career.

I'll keep voting for Taylor, as long as he's there....even though I'd rather see him in concert with his band. Beyond that, Elliot seems to be the ideal Idol.

I'd rather see Ace being a very energetic second or third singer for an awesome rock band.

Kathy and Chris I just don't see as Idol material.

Oh, are you getting any type of error message when you try using dial idol?

Pickler hasn't proved that she can "carry" a single song on her own. All she has is that annoying cute act--that's it.

You hit the nail on the head.

Someone who really likes Elliott. I have to see if someone can get this site to him. This nervous crap has to stop.

What would fabulously do her in if she she tried to sing Jesus Take the Wheel, Independence Day, or God Bless the Broken Road. Carrie's signature songs.

LOL! Let it be, PLEASE Lord, let it be!

Maybe Katherine will tell her to do it. LOL!! I'll bet you a glitter font that she jumps all over Rod Stewart next week.

I enjoyed reading that blog.

I said in my assessment after Tuesday, that Elliott has the most pure, pleasant, true voice. Also, his quiet unassuming demeanor has grown on me. When his mother called him a "good soul", I nearly burst.

I'm not sure he can win this thing, because Idol voters seem to not appreciate Elliott the way they should, but I sincerely hope that he has a career after Idol.

That's one happy raccoon

Big smile...yep. I would even be happy hugging Gretchen Wilson, though not in the same way you and the racoon would. She's a breath of fresh air in the country music business these days. A woman unafraid to do brassy, upbeat, old-time rock-and-roll and boogie music in a genre filled to overflowing with formulaic achy-breaky heart type stuff.

Case in point: 'Tonight I Want to Cry' by Keith Urban. Gag.

Awesome link!

(Hope it's alright to excerpt)

Kenny Rogers was dismissive of Taylor’s talent and downright contemptuous of Elliott – the only soul singers left in the competition. Coincidence? I think not. His advice was tantamount to giving a sprinter cowboy boots to run a marathon.

Rogers actually told Elliott, “If the lyric’s important, don’t do a lot of licks. Sing it simply. I have a feeling that’s your comfort zone – that, as long as you’re doing those, you know people are impressed.”

Them’s fightin’ words.

So, Kenny, I guess that Billy Joel is just a piano show-off who should stick to Chopsticks. And jazz musicians – they only play those complex lines and chords because they suck at country music. Grrr.

I scrutinize every note Elliott has sung on American Idol. He has never oversung, not once. His vocal runs – or licks, as Kenny called them – are never gratuitous. In contrast, Katharine McPhee tends to pad the more intricate melodies with aimless vocal runs that fall apart when she tries to improvise, as heard on All Is Fair in Love.

People have been making inquiries into him already and while the entertainment business is rife with FOS people, if there is money to be made someone will do something. One person of some note has already expressed interest in doing an album with him (depending on his contract status) and he has some interesting fans in the LA area who have access to a lot power people.

He's going to have a lot of doors opened to him from this experience.

Actually, I thought Botox Kenny had something of a point. Those runs are impressive to people who actually know something about music and vocal production. But Joe Public wants to hear the "big note" -- those impressive, long-lasting notes that make you sit up and say "whoa!" And there's a lot more Joe Publics out there than music connoisseurs.

If Elliott wants to stay in the competition long enough to make enough of a name to get a foothold in the biz, I think he needs to do a little pandering to the public taste. There is NOTHING WRONG with showing off what you can actually do! I was very pleased to see him going for the big notes at the end of Somebody to Love. He should do lots more of that. He's an extremely likeable guy, and if he manages to key in from the love from the audience and calm down, and then show off what he can really do, I think he could pop up (in the ratings) above Paris and McPhee, who both have a problem in seeming distant from their audience.

I agree somewhat about Kenny's advice, especially when he said Country music isn't about impressing, it's about making 'em cry.

But I understand this blogger, too, because I love them "licks."

I'm glad Elliott's been a slow cooking crockpot, looking better each week.
They showcased him well last night, don't you think?

But you're right, it's time for the final stretch, with no holding back.

Joe Public wants to hear the "big note" -- those impressive, long-lasting notes that make you sit up and say "whoa!" And there's a lot more Joe Publics out there than music connoisseurs.

Very true!

Interesting chart. From it we could assume that the bottom four will drop out in the next four weeks; then McPhee and Daughtry will cancel each other out; and the two biggies left standing at the end will be Taylor and Kellie.

I agree. One of the four-letter words my kids were not allowed to use was "snot". It is so low class.
