Queen songs are very easy to perform in styles other than hard rock, so this should actually be a better week for everyone.
Queen really isn't a "hard rock" group. They sing/sang very eclectic and unusually songs, but not really "rocking" songs. Yes, they had a few songs and some solid guitar riffs that are rocking, but lots of their music is not even close to "hard rock".
Your My Best Friend, Somebody to Love, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We are the Champions, and on and on.
This ought to be a fun week. The last couple of weeks should have been fun weeks as well, but almost everyone made very poor song choices, and that's why this race is wide open.

So you are saying the winner will be akin to the World's Tallest Midget?........;-)

By the way, did you notice he can SING too? Oh I forgot, we're too busy guessing about his sexuality, what shallow, judgemental people we are!
Please, re-read all my posts...I don't think I ever posted anything like that.....and btw, I never said he couldn't sing, just that he's not the best up there...

If Mandesa cuts a gospel CD, I just might have to buy it. That gal can really belt 'em out!She really can. I am sure she will go great things.

Maybe they were so loud they were drowning him out?
Could have been. But if the whole audience is singing because they love your song, seems to me you would be happy about it and not such an idiot. THe in-laws can't stand him anymore. :) Can't say I blame them. :)
To: kevkrom
who among them is going to have both a broad appeal and also bring something to a genre that is currently missing?
I think you're fairly accurate with that statement, with a couple of _possible_ exceptions.
I believe there is room in country music for an edgy, sultry female singer. Kellie, with a little work, could fill that spot.
Chris, with the possible exception of "What If?" has performed as well, if not better, than the originals of the alt-rock groups that he's covered. His version of Walk the Line was excellent (better than Live, IMO), and his Fuel song was better than the original as well. And, the women LOVE him. My wife, who wouldn't listen to alt-rock if you paid her, votes for 2 solid hours for Chris every week.
For the other 6, I'm in complete agreement, especially Bucky. Are you catching any of Nashville Star? Their 5 male finalist are all much, much better than Bucky. It's not even close. Bucky wouldn't have made the top 10 in NS, yet he's still top 8 in AI.

Leaving so early?? Good night, RK :) I don't know what it is, but I have been sooooo tired this week. I slept through my alarm twice this week and I am a very, very light sleeper. By the time you posted that message last night I was knocked out.

Mandisa didn't wow anyone the last two weeks and Elliott just seems stuck on doing stupid love songs although the Funky White Boy week sure helped. Both are superior singers to the other contestants but bad songs or playing it safe will kill your chances against people with more pizzaz.
I'll see how he took last night's escape.

I think Taylor would fill a niche and have strong sales and be different, while the others are same old stuff. jmo

Sorry, I meant "we" collectively, not you personally. It seems like that's all I see when it comes to comments about Ace.
I would like to see Ace do something more up-beat, and not ballads all the time. I really liked "Do I Do" during Stevie Wonder week where he showed off some dance moves as well.
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think Ace sings better than Chris,...all he can manage is to scream his songs. If he does win, that "style" of singing will take it's toll night after night, and he won't have much voice left. I'm sure he has managed so far because he's been singing mostly on weekends with his band, and not like he would if he was on tour.

I'm sure her "roomie" Kellie is being real helpful with comments along the lines of (but more subtle than) "everybody loves your voice... who cares if you're fat?" -- McPhee would probably start to believe that after hanging around with the petite Pickler. LMAO!!!

Every time yo post 'Under Pressure' all I can think of is ZZ Tops 'Got Me Under Pressure'. :)

Could have been. But if the whole audience is singing because they love your song, seems to me you would be happy about it and not such an idiot. THe in-laws can't stand him anymore. :) Can't say I blame them. :) I think it was a tough call. He should have found a more polite way of getting them to stop. If he let it go, they may have continued to 'sing-a-long' on other songs as well. How about a group sing along of 'Lady'?
The way he did it though alienated some of his fans. Never a good thing.

STRICTLY FOR TAYLOR HICKS FANS ONLY....
HERE ARE MORE GOODIES FOR YOU
I just want to share with everyone a post made on the Idol Boards by Sean Hicks, Taylors brother
..
So country theme week is over. Next up, Queen. My favorite type of music (please dont crucify me) is heavy metal, and Queen helped pave the way for it. I have some great ideas for Taylor that Ill share with him when I talk to him tomorrow.
Today was rough for him. He woke up and went to breakfast, and on the way back he was listening to Seacrests radio show and the only thing he heard was a caller saying she thought Taylor Hicks should be kicked off tonight. Then he got back and saw something like Taylor Hicks Bottoms Out on Country Road as a headline is USA Today. So he called me this morning and woke me up, talking in his sad puppy voice usually reserved for lamenting about girlfriends.
Its not apparent from watching the show, but those contestants are on an island out there. LA doesnt care much about Idol. Taylor really has no idea how popular he is. We tell him, but I still dont think he gets it. I give him regards from the SP every time I speak to him, though.
And last but not least, THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR VOTING! These theme weeks are all about survival. Taylor is dying to get to the point where he can pick a song to sing and is given more than 80 seconds to sing it. If we have our way, hell get that chance!
Goodnight everyone
MORE GOODIES FOR TAYLOR HICKS FANS....
Here is Taylor Hicks Audio interview on the radio before the Country themed show yesterday
.
http://www.finebaum.com/media/interviews/20060404Taylor_Hicks.wax AND YES, HE STILL PLANS TO REPLACE THAT OLD COUCH HE SLEEPS IN WITH THE MONEY HE MAKES IN THE SHOW.
Here is an interview with Taylors dad Brad Hicks ( also silver haired ) on the same show...
http://www.finebaum.com/media/interviews/20060329Brad_Hicks.wax Listening to this tells you a lot about his family and their values, Taylor's personal interests, and the circumstances behind his audition for American Idol ( he almost became a victim of Katrina ).
The great thing about the Hicks is they are a patriotic family who show their love for America anyway they can.
Brad Hicks talks about his respect for our men and women in uniforms and speaks of soldiers who love his son's performances ( yes, they do show them in Afghanistan ).
He also says as a father, he feels for the fathers of the men and women in Afghanistan, whereas he only has to worry whether or not his son will perform well, the other dads have to worry whether or not their son will be safe. He then asks us to give our utmost respect and support for these men and women who are protecting our liberty. A TRUE SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN.
For that alone, I'll personally make sure his son goes DEEP into the finals.
FINALLY
Here is a video interview with Alicia Keyes regarding her view of American Idol. She says her favorite is TAYLOR HICKS :

And oh yeah, Mandy Moore has also jumped into the Taylor bandwagon.

I'm sure her "roomie" Kellie is being real helpful with comments along the lines of (but more subtle than) "everybody loves your voice... who cares if you're fat?" -- McPhee would probably start to believe that after hanging around with the petite Pickler. I had wondered if Pickler helped Katharine decide what to wear. But, someone posted an article that says that the contestants don't have much of a choice at all about what they wear.
To: kevkrom
I won't argue with your assesment it is pretty much on target.
The top three will include Kellie and Kathryn.
A dazzleing performance by either will carry the final day.
