Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Through shadows to the edge of night
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Thanks for your posts and freepmails! I appreciate the support. To answer some of your questions, I have consulted the ankle surgeon, my internist, my infectious disease specialist, my cardiologist, and my podiatrist. They have essentially all recommended amputation as the best way to proceed. It seems that my ankle is totally nonfunctional as it is, although I would like to keep my foot. It looks like amputation is the way it is likely to be.

That's a shame, LCS. But I hope whatever you do end up doing, you recover from it quickly and easily.

Than you!
I hope I have not been too depressing with my news. It has not been a good year for me, but I think there is no way to go but up now!

Sad news is best shared with friends. It helps when you know someone else cares. It has been a very bad year for you and I know we all hope you're right about it getting better from here.

I hope the weather's nice for that drive, at least. It can be a little bleak in March, especially if it rains, and you aren't going for a fun reason.
I've made the Pittsburgh-to-DC run waaay too many times.

Well, with FR bein' down, we went out and fenced off the front lawn area that gets worn to dirt all winter by dogs and traffic, softened it up a bit with the shovel and overseeded it. It may be a little too early to seed lawn, but we're feeling optimistic. We did it too early last year too, but after sitting there a month doin' nothin, it finally germinated just fine. :~D

Now we're gonna run in to the feed store and buy Rosie a fence.

You'll have to ask her, but I suspect not too long after the fence :~D

If that long...

So...are we ready?
I just cleared up all the Scotch Broom that was within the area I'm hoping will be the lawn...so there's that. Hopefully I got it all.
Looks like there are buds on all of 'em. They're about to go Code Yellow.

I took Luke to swim lesson and have been out in the yard since about 10. Got thedrystreambedflowers cleaned out and mulched (on one side only until the naybers build their fence). Did some other general yard clean up.
Planted the seed balls. Actually just set 'em in the dirt like it said. Saved some to plant about a month from now so I can hopefully stagger the bloom time.
It says to water 'em right away. Hopin' the rain will do that. So far, not a drop...
Think I'll go get a haircut.

I potted up some eggplant, maters, and peppers....and 45+ marigolds. Had to use the Potmaker.
I've got some bare root strawberries soaking over lunch. Think I'll plant them in pots. When the bees finish doing their business, I can bring 'em in so the squirrels and birds can't get 'em.

We're gonna do herbs and maybe some peppers in pots on the deck. I'm gonna use my square foot garden for maters, cucumbers and then just cutting flowers. Prolly plant some basil with the maters.

We just lost Buck Owens:

Where oh where,
Are you tonight.
Why did you leave
Me here all alone?

Buck Owens hosted "Hee-Haw" with Roy Clark, but he didn't sing "Where Oh Where."
That was Archie Campbell and Gordie Tapp. Campbell would sing the first line and Tapp would turn around and sing the chorus with him. The running joke got to be which regular or guest star would take his place.
Yet more useless trivia that could have saved room in my head for actual knowledge.
