The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

No fair! We get Bible quotes and they get encouragement? That's like biased or something...

Yeah, no kidding! Hmmph.

It's cuz they think we're goody two shoes and aren't going to misbehave anyway so their "encouragement" will work.

Okay, details:

Visitation: Sunday 2-4, 6-8
Funeral: Monday 11

It's a 6 hour trip. I can take Monday off if I need to.

Discuss.

hehehe...

Actually... we just got back from a whole day at the Seaquarium. Got appropriately soaked by the Orca show. Aly and Becky had a blast, and aren't even too cranky even with all those miles on 'em. The girls got soaked down by the water cannons in the play park. All in all, a pretty successful day.

Not sure what's going on this evening... still figuring all that out.

Having a great time though... Haven't been here at the house hardly at all, so we haven't been able to post.

:-)

Hmm, that might be better excuses than our 'working hard' in the basement...

Glad to hear it is going swimmingly ;-D

Well, it's good to go if you can make it and think your friend would be comforted that you came. On the other hand, if the friend is surrounded by lots of family now, maybe a visit in a few weeks would be just as good and be more valuable in terms of time you could spend with him.

Do what your heart tells you.

Yah... got pictures... but don't have my cable here to pull them off the camera. We've been using the hotel as a sort of base of operations... and I didn't bring my computer to post from there.

Maybe we'll figure out how to get some pics posted, but probably tomorrow.

Oh...I've already decided that I'm going. It's a matter of when. Talked to the Mrs. about it and she agrees I need to go.

I'm thinking of going in time for the visitation on Sunday evening and staying for the service on Monday.

Of all people to tell me he has technical gadget limitations!

How'd the meeting go at her office?

Sounds good. He'll be glad you came.

I just also remember it getting quiet in the weeks after mom's service when all the surrounding buzz of activity was over, and most folks go back to their lives and - stop talking about the deceased person - that's when I really started feeling the loss and really needed to visit with people who knew her.

I try to remember that now. I think it's a common experience.

wuz thinkin' 'bout somethin' like that... those look like they'd werk great...

the "range complex" is still in it's infancy... need to drop about a dozen more trees, and move a little dirt. A firing line is in order... was thinkin' railroad ties with oak chips packed behind it...

a permanent rifle firing point of some type is in order...

I've got some .25"-.5" steel that I've salvaged from the impact areas to make more silhouettes... for targets with "immediate gratification"...

Heh.

The meeting at her office was good. Met with their IT director, and they've got a good plan for doing the remote thing. Laptop, citrix... No worries. It's starting to look more and more like a done deal.
