The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm on for a sec...no telling how long. I'll be at the library this afternoon, so I'll check back then.

I'll be watching for your updates!

Everyone's off being busy today. It's a too-quiet day here.

Fabienne: Whose motorcycle is this?
Butch: It's a chopper, baby.
Fabienne: Whose chopper is this?
Butch: It's Zed's.
Fabienne: Who's Zed?
Butch: Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

Missed you this morning, but have been keeping you in my prayers. Hope it all worked out for you to do your work from home.

Your phone lines still waterlogged?

That's great news about Steve's thesis! I'm really starting to worry about mine. *sigh*.

Well, as soon as he gets done with all of this, I don't know what I'll do with myself...so I'll worry about yours! I'm a pro at it! LOL!

I'm just amazed that he doesn't have to turn in any kind of hard copy. It's all electronically through this site.

My brother was telling me they'd likely sign off on it right there at the defense. Once they sign off, it's over. I'm glad because I hope to get to go with him and get some cheese fries at Eskimo Joe's to celebrate!

Hey, they have a live cam! Maybe the Hole can watch and we can give the "Thumbs up" when he's done?

They probably will sign off at the defense. Sometimes they ask for minor changes, I've never known anyone who had to do too many changes after the defense.

Well, I'll tell ya, submitting that thing last night was pretty anti-climactic.

I thought Steve would come in and say "I'm done! They accepted it!" and there would be much rejoicing...but it was just "The paper has to be submitted to the GC by Friday? Is it done, then?" LOL!!

I'm still not sure it's sunk in yet...

He did it, you did it, and it's done. Commence rejoicing!

I just wish they'd get back to him on when the defense is gonna be! It's been a week and a half since he requested it.

It'll happen, it's just nerve-wracking! But things are moving a whole lot faster now than the EVER have before, so I just need to be patient.

Well his committee has what, three people on it? And they all have busy schedules, especially at this point in the semester. And the defense is a couple hours long. So they have to find a time they can all make it.

That's right...three guys. One is his advisor, I guess, and he has to go to Stillwater for the defense too. (He's at OSU-Tulsa). So yeah, there's a lot to coordinate.

Stillwater is about an hour and half away from here. That's why we rented a car when we went last time and probably will again, if we go with him. Our car is too iffy, imo, to go that far away from home! LOL!

If Steve goes alone, he'll take the Big Orange Bus.

It's spring break, apparently. The library is a zoo.

Did whispering in the library go the way of the dinosaur?

Here's that VW commercial I was telling you about. Unfortunately, it seems to be a hoax, but I was more sold on VWs after than before! I love it. Click the little > in the yellow box

It is rather humorous!

And I'm not surprised it's a joke. It's way too edgy to be a real ad.

The un-pimp your ride one is good too...

But it was all I could do not to laugh out loud even here in the library seeing that terrorist blow up.
