The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

He's learning not to expect that everything will just be given to him, even by you! He's learning to make his own way. Good kid!

Have you seen the new VW commercials about 'un-pimping the auto" ? They are just hilarious. Anyway, SirKit says that he's beginning to 'un-pimp his career'! I told him he's doing what kids do when they've been in a school, then start homeschooling. They have to take some time to 'de-school', to get into the home groove.

That's what he's been doing this week. He's thinking a lot about what he wants to do, now that he CAN do whatever he wants. He's already planning some professional papers, a textbook, even what he would teach if he were to work part time as a college math or statistics professor. He's having FUN!

You know, Steve is actually considering teaching at University of Pheonix...they hire people with experience in their field to teach, but you have to have a Masters.

There's one here in Tulsa and it might be something he can do till he finds another job...something to help us out a bit.

I've seen part of that commercial, but not the whole thing...I want to! My favorite one is where the terrorist pulls up to an outdoor cafe with a bomb vest on, intending to blow up the cafe, but only blows up himself inside the VW...the outside of the car remains unscathed. I think it's hysterical.

They have that in a commercial?

Mmmm! Alyssum is so nice. One of my favorite plants.

Post pictures as you go along! I love this! I just am so interested! I loved Corin's rock bed and loved watching OT's room getting built and I even liked seeing the progress of g'nad's chicken coop!

Which reminds me...I think the g'nads are putting up a pole barn! I love pole barns! I always said if I could just get my little bit of land, I'd live in a pole barn till the house got built!

Do they have wiggle board at Home Depot too? I can't remember if we figured out the answer to that or not.

Yeah! It's a pretty old one, but it's been since VW has been doing this funny quirky commercials.

I even remember when Hair planted her grass...that was neat to see and I've been inspired to do something with the bare dirt under the tree house...someday.

Steve's advisor told him this morning to do this.

Gotta be good news, right?

Yes, they would have it. My concern with getting that is whether they do any cutting... that stuff would be hard to cut straight.

Beautiful!

I'm thinking of growing "Ambrosia" cantaloupes and "Straight Eight" cukes. The cukes are an old kind that came from what is now Israel, from what I understand...

I've heard of cucumber fields there, so I'd like to try them.

Actually... I think I just figured out how we could cut the fiberglass. If you do get a sheet of it, get one of the wood wiggleboard slat thingies too. We can clamp the fiberglass to the slat and use the slat as a straight edge to cut it.

I got some lemon cukes yesterday - seeds, that is.

We shall see if they grow OK here.

I'm not sure what the slat thingies are...but if that'd do it...

Though I'd bet they'll cut it for you there.
