The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yay!

First I have to figure out some way of organizing the front of the house, though. I *think* I'm going to plant them between the house and whatever ivy I leave, some of which needs to be pushed back from the lawn.

In a lot of ways, I'd really like to get some of those panels from Home Depot while I'm workin' on the front. At least for the worst places. I can think about it.

Hm...course, if I planted them in kinda stripes or squares, leaving room between for other annuals once the weather got warmer...that could look really cool in a month or two...

After work maybe it'll stay light long enough for me to do some surveying.

You could spell something that people could read from the air ;~D

I think the alyssum would make a nice border on each side of the walk...

RE the lattice panels... Let me know and we'll run and get them in the truck.

Yesterday, Joshua wanted me to take him to Lowe's for a snapdragon plant (they had these hugh plants for 96 cents). He went and got the required amount out of his bank and I got some change so I could buy some milk while we were out. Well, the milk cost more than I had (and Aldi's doesn't take debit cards) so I had that bit of money in my pocket.

When we were picking out Joshua's snapdragon, I turned to find Matthew (who had not come prepared to buy anything) looking kinda wistfully at a bright yellow snapdragon. You could tell he was regretting not bringing some money, but he never said a word.

It kinda made me proud of him! I said "Would you like one too?" and he said "I didn't know they'd be this nice...but I didn't bring any money." I told him he could borrow my change, since I didn't get that milk.

He was pretty pleased, despite trying to hide it...

The minute we got home, he paid me back out of his ice tray money. Did I need him to? No. But I think he needed to. There's a lesson there, I think.

Not quite sure what, though! LOL!!!

Looks like the weather will be really nice this week, hon.

Mid to upper 70s, partly cloudy skies. We have a cold front coming through on Saturday night so it'll get down into the 50s then. :-D

There's only a 20% chance of rain on Friday, so it shouldn't affect our trip to the Seaquarium.

Small tank, isn't it?

OK... so that means I bring a windbreaker to wear with the shorts? :-)

Looks like a cool thing to do... :-)

We took Jr. to Seaworld when he was two. He was thrilled to see "Shampoo" the Killer Whale...

I have a sweatshirt you can ~borrow~. Might be familiar to ya. *grin*

Lolita is impressive. I was disappointed that I couldn't find a picture of her playing with the Pacific Whitesides.

You'll see it in person anyway.

Sea World has such a beautiful set-up. The Miami Seaquarium is really cheesy compared to it.

But the cheesiness of the place is its main attraction. :-P

Mmm...yeah, along the path would look nice...and define it a bit.

As for the panels...well, I get paid today, and I'm vey tempted to just get 'em, or at least some for near the door. The better it looks out there, the more I feel like I'm actually *home*, ya know? Like I can have family over and all.

I agree. There's a few things too, like taking some tools over and refastening all that skirting around the bottom that's loose, that would really help it look better.
