The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My crocus and daffodils have leaves up and I keep mulching them....just know another cold snap is waiting for them.

But.....we had 0 degrees temps last weekend, so if that didn't kill 'em, I guess they'll be okay.

Hmmmm....Miss Cat is up. Now I can get the sheets off the bed.

We have a pretty good idea what it'll look like. I'd post pictures, but someone would see who isn't supposed to :-D so you'll have to wait.

Phew!

Car is washed...with 15 minutes to spare!

Looks like the daffodils are fixing to send up flower stalks.

You could always send us gals a link in freepmail. ;o)

I made my own wedding dress. It was a simple sleeveless a-line dress with a lace capelet. Keep in mind, this was the 70's, and I wore flowers in my hair instead of a veil. I did, however, wear sandals, rather than go barefoot!

We love Netflix! Mostly we use it for entertainment, but I think they are getting more educational materials. You have to do some searching for it, though. I know they have some National Geographic DVD's, and might even have some Discovery Channel Science DVD's.

There is another outfit, similar to Netflix, that does a lot of educational DVDs. I'll search my homeschool message boards to see if I can find it.

OK, HERE'S another possibility. There is a LOT of stuff on this site, but they have a link for educational DVDs, including movie rental sites.

I just checked Netflix site. If you click on the 'Documentary' link, you'll see they have a whole bunch of them in all subjects, History, Science, Nature, etc.

I had Walmart's DVD club (I think it is part of Netflix now) and cancelled it because I found I could get any movie I wanted through our public library system for free or, if I couldn't get it from our library, they'd "interlibrary loan" me one for a buck!

'Course, there's a bit of a wait, sometimes...but heavens! It's free! (Well, our taxes pay for it.)

Steve took the jedis to choir.

I'm making them pizzas for supper tonight. I have found that if you take Mission low carb white flour tortillas and cook them in a dry cast iron skillet...turning them over and over...toasting them, you know....they get really crispy. The regular tortillas don't get so crispy.

I take the crispy low carb tortilla and spread my homemade italian-seasoned tomato sauce on it, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and then apply some burger or some pepperonis, then broil it till golden brown on top.

Clare loves Quesadillas, and has become quite adept at making them for herself and Joseph. I like them because they remind me of Chimichangas, but without all that grease from the deep frying! I got some of those low carb Tortillas, but haven't tried them yet.

Our library has some of the Teaching Company videos. They are really good, but mainly for high school and college level courses.
