The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Speaking of Mom, she is comming by here sometime today to meet Jack (Anne's Dog). We are trying to keep him in the family instead of taking him back into the rescue.

...Big concern right now is Frog hasn't checked back in with her address!

Sorry 'bout that! I was out all weekend. I just FRemailed it to you.

I enjoyed your pictures of your trip, especially all that information on the natural water treatment. It was really interesting. I'm glad you posted them. I like reading about how stuff works. When my husband and I went on vacation and visited the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, we took the "Behind the Scenes" tour to see all the service areas and stuff like that. It's amazing all the stuff they had in that house in the 1890's. We're real geeks about stuff like that.

That's strange about those people coming to "visit" Harley. I'm with you, I think they were scoping you out to see if you would sell.

I had a good ride this weekend. It was in the mid 60's and sunny. We went to the horse camp out in the Forest and everybody and their brother must've had the same idea. Of course it was the first nice Saturday we've had in about a month so I guess everybody had cabin fever just like me.

On Sunday I drove up to Pulaski, TN to pick up Grace from the trainer's. He rode her for me and she sure did look pretty. She carries herself very nicely and her gait looks like it's really going to be nice. She was really glad to get back home too. I figured there'd be fireworks when I turned her out in the pasture with the others but there wasn't. It was more like "Oh, we know you! Glad to have ya back!" There was lots of nuzzling, but no squealing or kicking, which is unusual to me when you've got a breeding age mare being reintroduced into a heard of 2 geldings, another mare, and a yearling filly. I plan on riding her this coming weekend, if not sooner. It's just hard to get anything done when it gets dark so early after I get home from work.

Yeah - we're looking forward to longer days too.

Great news about Grace... You've raised two real good ones here recently, with both Bob and Grace turning out so nice! Good job!

Thanks! I'm proud of 'em all. It's actually 3 if you count Blade. Even though he wasn't born at my place, I raised him from a baby. His owner is real pleased with him too, even though he did give her a fit this past weekend. But she hasn't ridden him to speak of since before Thanksgiving, because her husband has had some health problems, and a little fractiousness is to be expected out of a young horse that isn't ridden regular. He never had time to get that way with me. I recommended that she take him to her saddle club arena and work with him some there before taking him out on the trails. And when she did take him out, to pick the less challenging ones as their first outings, just until they get used to each other again.

Well, I gotta head home. Gotta get to the post office to mail your package. Talk to ya tomorrow...

Ah yes! Blade too.

Good advice on safely getting back into things after a winter off.

Hey, Frog, that's great about your horse doing so well. Be sure to get us a picture of her under saddle:)

I'm going to run that last English Pad I bought back to the store today and get my money back. I was told I had 60 days to try it, and could return it for my money if I had the receipt. I'm going to talk to the lady there that has helped me so much. I really doubt it, but it doesn't hurt to ask, if I could get my money back on the saddle. She knows how much I've been trying to get the darn thing to work. Maybe:)....

Jenny goes to the doctor again today....I have a feeling they are going to start talking about inducing labor....not sure what to think about that. I've heard good and bad, we'll just have to see.

Hey Hair, how about that 24??? I can't believe the first lady forgave that slime she's married too. I'm starting to feel about him like I do about Clinton, I can't even stand to look at him when he's on,,,gagging.

And Kim,,,you'd think she'd be a little more enthused about her dad still being alive. I LOVED the look Jack gave her boyfriend when they were first talking,,,Heh, If the guy only knew.

The old Jack was back, shooting that guys wife in the leg, I KNEW that was going to happen.

And Edgar:(, I knew that was going to happen too. I liked him.

Becky

OH - I'm not sure she really did... I think she's playing him so she can drive him around! ;~)

Oh - poor Edgar - that was mean...

They induced my friend... It was her first so I don't know what to compare it to, but she did OK through it.

And good morning :~D

He's moving around, seems fairly comfortable without pain meds. Still on his diet and he don't like it.

Mom came over last night and went home to telling Mac about a fish in my aquarium that she really liked. He was shaking his saying NO NO NO.

According to the estimates... you guys ought to start receiving your ferns tomorrow... Duchess ~might~ get hers today!

I didn't send them UPS so they aren't tracked. It ended up being too expensive to send them 2nd day (like $50 each!) which seemed high for a plant that wasn't worth anything :~D

UPS ground wouldn't have arrived till Friday, but regular priority mail estimated arrival Wednesday or Thurs, even though there was no guarantee, and was the same price. It was all very complicated :~\

I just hope they aren't too dried out. I think it helps that they're still fairly dormant, but I'm concerned because they were starting to sprout and those sprouts are fairly delicate. I think it'd definitely be a good idea to soak them in water a good long time before putting them in dirt. But even if you lose these first sprouts, all may not be lost. When I've moved them mid-year and lost this year's growth or chopped it off, they send up new ones in response.

I'm sure they'll be fine since they're packed in those damp shavings, and hopefully they didn't get roughed up too bad in transit. I'm looking forward to getting them!
