The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good Morning.

Looks like we are finally going to have a break in our weather. The winter has been pretty mild, so we really can't complain. Good thing, or I might have to take out a second mortage to pay the gas bill..ouch!

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think they were here to feel me out on if I would sell him or not. The man that owned him as a stud sold him to the girl I got him from, and he knew what I paid for him, knew that he was sold to me for practically nothing given what he is. From the way of the conversation I think they saw a chance where they could make an offer that would give me some profit, but they would get a great horse for not much. Once they figured out I knew what I had, and he wasn't really for sale, that's when all this stuff started coming out:)

LOL, but then again I could just be analyzing the visit to much. Maybe they just wanted to see him....I just find that odd tho since the man that bought him originally bought him to stand as stud, buys and sells horses all the time, and didn't really have him that long to be "that" sentimental about. He has lots of horses. He can't very well keep up with all the horses he sells...the whole thing just seemed odd to be just to see him.

It's pretty interesting! I bond hard with horses, as you know... So I've showed up in people's driveways before.. Bay's as a matter of fact, just to see how he's doing... and find out of he was for sale, of course :~D

Yeah, but men just usually don't do that, especially men who deal in horses as a business.

The people who I think were the ones who wanted him, if that is the case, sell horse trailers as a business. He had trailers down at the feed store I buy my feed from for awhile, but him and the owner of the feed store had some kind of problem and he moved all his trailers out. I think this guy is a "horse trader" in the not so good sense of the word:). Not really dishonest, but always looking for the even better then a good deal type thing.

For them to know what I gave for Harley, they had to have done some research, and maybe even knew I had bought him with the intentions of reselling him. Who know,s no big deal, just makes me curious, because I got the definite impression something other then just seeing him was going on.

Bob's the only one I know who did that... he visited Bay too :~D

But we both ~were~ interested in buyin' him if the lady (this was the endurance woman) wasn't taking good care of him or wanted rid of him.

Rusty is the only horse I've ever sold that I liked:). I still don't really want to hear/see about him. It's over, finished, done with, gone. Why torture myself:)

Well, I know myself well enough to know I'd never make it in the horse tradin' business... I'd regret and want to buy them all back :~D

Beautiful day here. JP is coming to play:) I am really have to fight the urge to start planting things in my garden:). There still is the chance of a freeze:(. But with all our talk last week about the fern, I'm ready to go:)

I have a few things growing now. Hyacinth, this is the third year for the ones on the left, I added the ones around the end of the rock just last fall. Hyacinth smell soooooo lovely, I had to have more. I just wish they lasted longer then they do. They are early spring and then that it. A lot like daffodils. I have daffodils, but they don't bloom, I don't know what I'm doing wrong on them.

Candytuft

Dianthus

Of course, I have iris coming up all over the place. I planted alot of new ones in the fall, different colors. I'm anxious to see what colors will make it. I planted some black ones. I've never seen a black flower.

The black ones are really rich... like a deep dark purple in the light.

My daffodils no longer bloom either... I think there's a particular time you're supposed to feed them.

I think you're right about them hoping to buy him, and hoping to get a very good deal also. Because of his color and training, he's a valuable horse, throw in his laid back attitude and he's outstanding.

I have been so tempted to get a black rose although I don't know if I'd like it once I got it. It's just that I've never seen one either and it seems like it would be cool.

I've got a lot of iris planted, they do well here and the ground squirrels and the rabbits leave them alone. The ground squirrels and/or moles got every one of the daffodils I planted before they ever bloomed. When we first moved into this house, I planted 500 daffodil bulbs and about 200 tulips. The ground squirrels had a feast.

You know how Mom is. She doesn't mean anything by it, it's just an extreme couriosity thing she has always had when it comes to time spent with Dad and not her. Whoever the DIL was that told Dad couldn't fly any more made a HUGE mistake. I'm sure her intentions were good, but he'll probably fly now just to prove he can do whatever he wants.
