This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oh, OK. I figured it was just I'm not good a searching for things on the internet:)
Becky
Yeah, he's 1/2 heeler, 1/2 catahoula.
Becky
I am so sorry about your chicks. I lost my whole flock to coyotes one time and aside from I really liked all their individual personalities and quirks, I felt like I had failed them by not preventing it :( Sometimes taking every conceivable precaution still doesn't stop nature.
The only rocks I've ever found that I sort of like:)
Becky
People pay big money to have a stone patio like that :~D
Well I wish it was in the yard and not in the middle of my "pasture":) Kind of shows you why I'll probably never have a really lush pasture. Even where I have soil, this sort of thing is right below the surface.
Becky
yeah - and it'd be hard to even add dirt to it, it'd wash right off that.
But it's kind of pretty isn't it:)
Becky
Definately! I think you could find a way to use it to your advantage... a gazebo for shade, some lawn furniture...
It's turned out to be a good place (I guess) for Mack to park his equipment on. We had to move it from behind the shop because (Kids I think) were stealing gas out of the dump truck, for their 4 wheelers. I don't like all that stuff in Rocky's pasture, worries me that he'll get hurt on it, but we didn't have much choice. Makes for ugly clutter.
Becky
Makes for ugly clutter.
Trucks and stuff is only ugly clutter if they don't run, and then only if you haven't planted flowers and vines on them, right cav?
Those rocks are so neat. I'd have to make a picnic or BBQ area there to take advantage of them.
Sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck.
I just got reminded that I'm farm-sitting for Tiff this weekend... So we'll have to go there twice a day... and it might complicate our ability to go on a trail ride... we'll have her dog, and I don't know yet what we might be able to do with her while we're gone. We'll see how easy she is... this is a Great Pyrenees pup (last time I saw her) that is about six months old now
Hey everybody! I just wanted to drop in for a minute and give you an update before I go back to playing with the babies. Bluebell had a BIG filly. I swear she came out needing to have her hooves trimmed! She was black as coal with a generous springling of gray hairs, so I'm thinking she'll be a gray, since the gray gene is supposed to intensify solid colors. But she doesn't have any gray hair below the knees, so she may suprise me and turn out to be a blue roan like her mom.
And guess what! While I was there messing with her this morning, Truly started having her baby. So I got to watch, and take pictures of course. I had to help him out a little bit because he had one leg that wasn't sticking out straight like the other, like it was bent up under him at the elbow. I was amazed, it didn't take long at all. She started laying down around 11am and he was born about 11:30. I just knew he was dead when he came out because his little tongue was hanging out and he wasn't moving. But then the little bugger sat up on his chest and took his first breaths, and I finally quit holding mine. That was the first birth I'd seen and it wore me out! I can't tell if he's going to be black or blue, but he looks a lot like Ellie did when she was born, so I'm gonna guess blue for now. He's not nearly as big as Bluebell's filly, but he looks ok. I haven't really seen him suck too much yet, but the vet said give him a few hours, that if he was up and around and looking for it, he'd eventually find it. I'm fixing to go back over there and check on him. I'll talk to y'all after while and catch up on the thread.
Wow - thanks for the update, but you scared the daylights out of me halfway through... what a roller coaster, I guess you felt the same when you were living it.
I look forward to the pictures :~D
I can't wait for pictures:). So glad everything turned out well.

We just got back from our ride. It was very nice, altho I think I wore Julia out. She was ready to come back about an hour ago, but I wanted to climb some hills. I would have made another loop but took pity on her:). I guess we did about 2 1/2 hours.

Troy built has a small one that I want but I can't afford it right now. I need something to clear brush from the bank at our lake lot. It's a gentle but rough slope. I haul the lawn mower down there but I've turned it over several times. I see the brush hog they advertize. Makes it look easy:')
