The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, I'm counting the minutes till 9:30 when the saddle shop opens. Today is the day my saddle is suppose to be ready.

My nutty neighbor, Beth called yesterday, and somehow we got on the subject of saddles. She wants to try my English Saddle. I'm going to take it down to her house today. I really don't think it will work for her, she's really a tiny person, I think the seat will be too big. and she may not even get to try it, because I'll bet my girth is going to be to long. She's got a pretty small, lean Arab. If she can't try it I doubt she'd buy it. But hey, it's her decision.

Well,,,not today:(, but this week sometime. The oiler guy has it, and he's not made it into work yet today. As soon as he gets and the girl finds out what day it will be ready she's going to call me and let me know, but it won't be ready today.

Hmph...doesn't suprise me. What is it?

Hey Becky...do you know what it takes to remain a legal resident of Oklahoma, even if you have to temporarily move out of the state? You know, like travelers, who travel most of the year and aren't home but still call Oklahoma home? Can you actually live in one state and work in another?

Wonder who'd you ask about stuff like this?

Oh Man! That's a nasty looking claw mark! I'm glad she didn't get your eye. If house cats were any bigger they'd REALLY be dangerous. They can cut you to shreads without meaning to as it is.

The saddle shop called back. My saddle will be ready tomorrow. I'm going out of town for the day tomorrow so I'll pick it up on my way back home tomorrow afternoon. With the time change and it staying light later, I still should be able to get a ride in:)

Addarol is a RX drug given for ADHD. But if you crush it up and snort it it's like meth. It's very addicting too.

No, I don't know anything about how to remain a legal resident. Sorry. Are you planning on leaving for awhile?

Another topic:), the neighbors that built the big house next door to me has a flock of Guinea hens. They've been coming over here everyday and hanging around for awhile. They make sooooo much noise, and are about the ugliest things I've ever seen:). My horses don't know what to think of them :) LOL, kind of funny.

Well I'm glad to hear that you're finally going to get that saddle! Hopefully it'll work out.

Speaking of new saddles, this is the one I picked up on Saturday. I rode it a little yesterday around the pasture and I REALLY like it, except for the fact that it SQUEAKS like CRAZY. That's the one thing I don't like about new saddles. I stopped by the Dollar General and bought a can of baby powder and that problem is going to go away tomorrow.

I rode around a bit in the other new saddle that I bought on ebay and have decided that the stirrup leathers are just too long and it can't be taken up any more and it's really just too big over all, so I'm probably going to try to sell it.

Guineas may be ugly, but they're about the best kind of watch dog you can have. With them around, ain't NOBODY gonna drive up to your place without you knowing about it. But they're about the stupidest things I've ever seen too. They don't have sense enough to get in out from in front of a car.

They're great "watchdogs", will alert you when a stranger is around and great tick eaters, from what I understand...but they are loud and ugly. They are hardier than chickens too and can fly up into the trees to escape danger.

I would love a flock some day...

OHHHH, I like that one. It really looks comfy:) Is it on Grace here? Will if fit your bigger horses? Is this one of the ones made by an Amish Guy? (Sorry for all the questions:), I have trouble keeping everything straight).

I like the stirrups, they look comfortable for a long ride too. Are they the swivel kind, or just hang at the right angle?

So is the saddle you are selling the one with the adjustable tree?

Well, I'm happy to let the neighbors guineas come over anytime they want to help my chickens eat the ticks:). My dogs don't know what to think of them. I'm keeping an eye out that they don't start chasing them. so far they just seem curious to watch them.

All the places around here that have Guineas do have trouble keeping them from being killed in the roads. They are stupid. When one is dead in the road, the others all stand around him making noise and don't move. You can pass one dead in the road, come back by latter and they'll be 2-3 more.

Thought I'd show you pictures of my fern again. I really think that one of the halves you sent me is crocking:(. It was uncurling for awhile, actually faster then the other half, but then it just stopped and now the uncurled fronds are getting limp and just hanging. I'm wondering if I trimmed them off if it might give it a chance to come back???? I've thought before with other plants that trimming off dying stuff helps the plant to come back???

The live side, and at the bottom of the picture you can see the other.

Closer look at the side I think is dying.

And then for the heck of it:), the dogwood tree I got last year from Jenny for mothers day. It's blooming, I was wondering if it would survive. I've had alot of people tell me they are hard to grow.

That's Bob in the pictures modeling the saddle. I haven't tried it on Tennessee yet, but hopefully it'll fit him ok too. It is one of the ones made by an Amish guy. It's similar to the Tucker Endurance saddle. The stirrups don't swivel. I went ahead and had him put some of those metal stirrup hangers on there that make them hang straight like that. I hate having to break in new fenders, plus sometimes, depending on where you have to set your stirrup leathers, the blevins buckle can jab the horse in the side when you have them twisted out like that.

The one I'm selling is the adjustable tree one. I sure hate to sell it because it fit everybody so well, but it just doesn't fit me. I'm hoping my friend who bought Blade will want it. The one she has is too small for her and it doesn't fit Blade either. she's been looking at new saddles on ebay but is having to wait until she sells a litter of pups before she'll have the money. She raises and shows champion Irish Setters, so her puppies bring a fair amount of money.

Well, the one side of your fern does look pretty bad. It looks like maybe the top 3 fiddle heads in the bottom picture are rotting or something. Hopefully it'll make it. I don't know if cutting them off would help or not. I just happened to glance at mine this moring and it's greening up too. I didn't look close enough to see if part of it isn't doing to well. I'll have to check it out this evening.

Well, I really like your saddle.

I don't know if they are rotting, but they sure aren't doing well. I think I am going to go ahead and trim them off. Since I've got one doing so well I can risk this one. Did you put both halves in one hole?

I got some more pics here. I went ahead and put Grace's fly sheet on her this weekend and it was so funny watching the other horses check her out. You could tell that they didn't quite know what to make of it. They all gathered around her in a mob and pretty much went everywhere she went for about 30 minutes...

I think Tennessee even thought it was sexy. He was following her around like an old stud after a mare in heat...

The new must've worn off though because he's back to pretty much ignoring her now.
