This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
How long do they bloom for? What do they look like when they aren't blooming?
I've looked at pictures of them and they looked so pretty....hhhmmmm, if they only bloom for a short time, maybe I don't want to plant them in my garden....
If you look at that picture I had planned on planting 1-3 of them in that corner there on the left.

only shrubs I wanted in my flower beds WERE the lilacs.
I am the same way. I just don't ever seem to get around to pretty except at the barn.
A "little woman" attitude? Those kind of guys are the worst. I tend to get over protective sometimes of newbies:') Sounds like he's not worth the concern though.
They each take up about 2' square. The stalks start falling over (of course it could be the wind here) and then dry and brown. And they are as big around as your thumb at least. Last year I planted a Rose of Sharon - hibiscus which I like much better. They are much neater and have some pretty colors.
Well, I'm going to have to give it some thought now. I've got about 20 seedlings growing, LOL, I may land up putting them out along the side of the shop.

Well, to tell the truth, I imagine he just moved out here from NYC or something and doesn't have any concept of what's he's proposing but his attitude was really offensive to me. He called me :) I didn't call him.
Anyway, in the picture of the hollyhocks, imagine the leaves half eaten by bugs and the stocks brown and falling over. :) That's my garden.
I have two rose of sharons growing out front. I like them alot, and they are so easy.
The hollyhocks look very pretty:), I just didn't realize they could be that invasive. If I do plant one/them, I want them to STAY in that corner:)

There are some people that I wouldn't sell my horses to for a million dollars. I'm serious.
They will look pretty no matter where you put them though. I've got seedlings started but all vegetables for the garden. I really hope when I retire I'll have time for my flower beds, I used to love taking care of them. Here, I have switched to all perennials and still don't have time to fight the weeds.
Have you every grown Lupine or Foxglove?
Now I'm worrying about all this new stuff I'm trying:)

Well, they may not be if they are properly taken care of. I just never seem to have the time. I never get the stocks cut soon enough and the wind blows the seed pods all over. Then they don't get raked up soon enough, etc. etc.
After my business is up and going and I feel safe cutting the cord I only want to work away from home two days a week. I know I have to work right now but I see so much fun I'm missing. All thanks to FR lol.
I completely agree with you there. I want my horses going to a good home. I don't mind them going to someone who doesn't know anything about horses if they have the desire to learn. The young couple that bought Speed are like that and I couldn't have picked a better home for her.
It's a lot of fun trying new plants and if you don't think they fit in after awhile, you can always move them. It's fun getting unusual and exotic ones to grow too.
Isn't that the truth. I'm shooting for retiring next year if I can get enough bills paid and money saved. I don't know if I'll make it but I'm sure going to try. We want to be able to do a little traveling too which we can't now.
By the way, one or both are poisonous I'm pretty sure. You might want to check on the varities that you are planting.
