Anyway, in the picture of the hollyhocks, imagine the leaves half eaten by bugs and the stocks brown and falling over. :) That's my garden.
Have you every grown Lupine or Foxglove?
Now I'm worrying about all this new stuff I'm trying:)

I agree with you about the hollyhocks. My MIL has them. They're just volunteers that come back every year. They look good for about a week when they're blooming, then the ants start to eat them and the end up looking skeletonized and fall over. Rose of Sharon is nice too, but they also self-sow and you'll have little tree-like seedlings coming up all over that you'll have to pull. There's always some bad with the good I guess.
