The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah, he does. Maybe that is something he will grow into?
I think this mare foaled shortly after arriving in rescue and was is still not sound to ride. Bucket probably has some growth issues associated with the lack of care she received before she was seized. I remember his sire being seized with them and he was a small horse also.

That is great and kind of why I did it. Someday when I am looking to adopt one advice like this will be helpful.

NO NO NO. No horses for me right now. I already need a patch of some sort for this fish addiction I have.

Well I hope they have a good home now. Got to go. I'm late today. I had trouble sleeping. I think it's the caffine. I have really cut down on the diet cokes because they were making me hungry. I had 2 last night and was wide aawke at 3. Talk to you later. Will you check to see if my books came in? Later.

Chris has come and gone. It is hard to know if the Knox Gelatine did anything. He did have to trim about 1/4 inch off, but he's grown that much before on his own. BUT, with the weather conditions being soooooo dry, and he's not been rode, I'm not sure he would have grown on his own that much. So who knows. After the shoeing was done, I watched him step at the walk, and his back foot is landing now on top but a little forward of the place his front foot landed, so we have lenghtened his stride. I'm going to lunge him latter and see how he is at the trot.

A few pictures.

Chris has a new puppy, 1/2 catahoula, 1/4 border collie, 1/4 blue heeler, Reba.:)

She helped hold the horse:)

Harley coorperated very nicely holding his lead rope so I could take pictures:)

Chris's truck

This is Harley's foot trimmed up. Chris said the frogs look good to him. He said this time of year they shed them off, so they can look bad.

Harley: "Hey, Whatcha doing to me:)"

Shoeing:

There are so many things that "can" be problems for one horse, but not for another, I don't think any one theory holds true to all horses:).

Great pics... sounds like you think Harley ~is~ coming along in the important aspect of his stride. When's the new saddle ready?

Our dogs love to be underfoot to grab the trimmin's too - (and throw them up later on) I usually don't let them out till he's all done 'cuz they're too stupid.

Did you tell your farrier you were sharin' his pics with your internet buddies? :~D

Blondie is a pretty horse, but be sure to read the write up about her:). There are a lot of clues in there about her "experience" level. IMO, this horse would probably need more then a strong intermediate rider, especially if she was taken out of her comfort zone.

I realize you all are not serious about adopting her, I just like reading peoples sales pitches on horses. In reality, very few out and out lies are told, but you can tell when a warning is trying to be given without scaring away potential buyers:)

I do think he is coming along. Later when I lunge him at the trot, I'll know more. The saddle "should" be ready a week from today. I'm really getting anxious:), I'm so ready to ride. AND he needs it.

Susie is the only one I worry about getting stepped on, the others are on their own. But she's always been good at staying not RIGHT under the horse:). Grizzly is the one that can get pushy about trying to get in, Chris just thumps him.

Yeah, I told him about sharin the pics. I told him about that web site too, and how they ripped his shoeing job apart. He didn't care. He told me to tell them, if they've got that much time to chat on the internet, they aren't under a horse enough to know what they're talking about:). Chris is pretty laid back guy.

I like the upright carriage of this one... They say she's appy, but looks more Arab or NSH than traditional appy in her 'type'.

Bonita

Her temperament sounds like EXACTLY the way I would describe my pony. Flashy, but jumpy as all heck.

This one is actually a nicely built horse... they're sure using a homely pic on his thumbnail:

The palamino has a nicer hip then the appy, IMO, but from the pictures it looks like her neck is a bit short.

I'd want to have the back end of the palamino and the front end of the appy (minus the ears maybe:)

The top one looks like a pretty typical Arab hip to me... I know you QH types like those big butts. :~D

Well I just got back from the barn a little while ago. Just did a hack. Tomorrow I'm going on a trail ride, Saturday I'm doing another hack, and Sunday I have a formal lesson.

A hack is just riding. At least that what we call it around here.

I know! I was feeling sorry for myself so I treated myself to some extra riding time. It's lightened my wallet, so I can't get too used to it, but I can enjoy it while it lasts!
