STEELERS WIN SUPERBOWL X-TRA LARGE DETROIT - Mick Jagger moved up and down the field at halftime more easily than the Pittsburgh offense did for most of the game. In the end, though, Jerome Bettis, the Steelers and their thousands of rowdy fans wound up the big winners on Super Bowl Sunday. Save for a few big plays that changed the game, style points were hard to come by on America's annual football holiday. But to Pittsburgh, the 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks was beautiful _ a gritty grind of a game that included just enough flair to transform a blue-collar team playing in a blue-collar city into champions.
In a stadium brimming with thousands of Pittsburgh fans waving Terrible Towels, the Steelers finally captured their fifth title, that "One for the Thumb" they've been chasing since 1980.
"It's almost unreal right now," coach Bill Cowher said.

No. I don't bother listening to analysts tell me what I just saw. Especially morons like Steve Young, who may be one of the worst analysts in NFL broadcasting. He pushed off. It's illegal. No touchdown.
Why didnt they call it short on the field? The refs first reaction said short, then he said TD.... Why didnt he make Pit review it FOR the TD?
I don't know, I can't read the minds of the officials like you can, I guess.
Also I dont believe pit would have went for it on 4th down, they shut Bettis down 2 times before that and if they would have gotten stoned and came away with no points it would have been bad. Cower would have went for the points.
The old Cowher might have, but not this year's version. You're quibbling over a spot of an inch at best, and on 4th an 1 inch for goal, any coach in the league would go for it, unless it was late in the game and a FG would be enough.
Ok, what about other anylist? Mike & Mike in the morning said the same thing. BAD CALL
Blaming the officials for poor play is a loser's exuse.
The Steelers deserve everything they got. As a fan of football, I sick of the arbitrary calls that the refs make that help determine the outcome of games. Pitt clearly dominated the Colts, but a bogus call on the Troy P. interception could have given the Colts the victory. The Steelers were lucky that the bad call did not do them in that day.
Good teams win despite calls not going their way. Bad teams whine about the calls.
:)
LOL............ I have some big, meaty ones flying around here right now. ;-)
They look like they might be pretty tasty.
Please be well, I have totally enjoyed you, your posts, your strong spirit, and your great sportsmanship.

Those NSA hearings ought to be pretty entertaining today, by the way.
Take care .......
The problem was that the call on the field was called a touchdown. You saw the same angle as the referee and the referee should not have called it a touchdown because the ball did not clearly cross the plane. As a matter of fact, the referee did not even signal a touchdown until after big Ben pulled the ball out from under his belly and placed it across the line.
Not a fan of either team, just ticked off that I wasted time with another poorly played (and officiated) game.
TD signals are frequently late. I'm not sure why -- officials are checking to make sure there wasn't a fumble? I dunno, but the late TD signal happens in almost every game I watch.
For the record, I thought he did get the nose of the ball to the goal line. But what I think vs. what can be proved on replay are not necessarily the same thing.
1) Bad call or not, they still won -- winners win, losers whine.
2) In the Colts game, I actually said the Colts would challenge and possibly win, because of all of the talk about the rule after TB's game tying TD against WAS was taken away the week before.
The bad call in the colts game happened when the steelers were
winning by alot. After the bad call, indy still had to drive the field which they did, and that TD still didnt tie the score. that call was hardly a game breaker.
They had to take that TD away from Tampa because of the one they gave Tampa earlier in the year against the Redskins that Tampa won on. (Alstott's elbow)
In the last ten years only four games were non-competative:
Packers vs Patriots Packers won 35-21
Broncos vs Falcons Broncos won 34-19
Ravens vs Giants Ravens won 34-7
Bucs vs Raiders Bucs won 48-21
The other six have been exciting and entertaining games. This was the first I have seen (watched every Super Bowl from IX to present) where officiating had a significant impact. XL stunk next to the last six good games. The other four were blowouts because the champions were dominating teams throughout the season.
You're a good man, 'ant. Sorry your guys lost, but only one team can win.
Being second overall in the NFL isn't too shabby anyway. Hawks went a long way, further than they have ever gone before.
And there is always next year.
A few points: 1) Officiating wasn't perfect, for sure. The Steelers came out ahead on the bad calls THIS game (for a change) and I freely admit we were fortunate to get the calls that went our way. 2) Quite a few of the worst calls were the ones that weren't made...tons of holding by the Seahawks offensive line that did not get called at all. 3) Referring to people that hold grudges for decades...that would be Madden, whose dislike for the Steelers will last to his dying breath. 4) The Seahawks are a fine team that lost. Live with it; we Steeler fans have certainly had our share of that.
Thank you for the nice post. Your Seahawks will be back in the SB again. They are a great team.
But I just want to add one thing...please Pissant, tell your kindred in the land of lattes that towels, brought into a football game, should never, ever, be minty green. Yoi!!! And double yoi!!!
Hey, it's Seattle, what do you expect. LOL
Congrats on your SB trophy. :o)
And to think I even went out and bought a new bag of charcoal. :(
You're a very gracious Seahawks fan, pissant. They're lucky to have you on their side.
;)
