At this stage, that's normal.

True. I remember thinking the same last year. Of course, only Carrie, Bo, Anthony, and maybe Vonzelle were really all that good anyway (ok, maybe Jessica, too, if you're going for versatility).

I am doing weight watchers. I didn't realize I typed 31, it should be 33! Now only 967 more pounds to go!

Okay, well it FEELS like 967 more to go. ;-)

I've done every diet known to man and this is the one that works best for me.

To sum it all up, I think you're right. I have not been able to get into the show as much this year because we aren't seeing as much of the singers.

They sent a bunch of people to Hollywood who have zero talent. We have seen so little actual performing so far in the Hollywood round that I don't have a clue about the overall talent at this point.

To make matters worse, I am absolutely convinced Paris is going to win the contest because the judges will do everything possible to throw it to her.

We didn't see Katherine McPhee last night, or did we and I just didn't recognize her. I also didn't see the undertaker. What happened to him?

At the moment there is one male singer who stands out to me. He's a young guy. Dark hair and terrible haircut. He wears his hair combed down over his forehead almost in his eyes. But underneath the hair, he's cute. Most importantly, he had a really terrific voice and some stage presence.

Mostly, I have been utterly bored by the show so far this year.

Who was it suggesting that Fox run extra footage on FX? That's an excellent idea -- run more of the actual auditions/performances and less of the "reality show" Ryan Seacrest showcase, and see how many people will prefer to watch that over the garbage they've been shovelling at us for the last 5 weeks.

I would much have preferred them to do the initial auditions in 2-3 episodes, and spending much more time showing the Hollywood auditions. We should have gotten at least four long episodes out of this (one each for the first two solo days, one for groups, and one for final solos), rather than two short ones that showed almost no auditions whatsoever.

Taylor Hicks continues to throw down great performances, from the singing department...

I honestly do not get what everyone sees in this guy. To me, he's very tough on the eyes both in appearance and in all his weird tics and schtick. His voice is not that good. At best the guy is a novelty act, nothing more. I don't like anything about him.

The four cowboys made me want to hurl. I've said all along that little dude who supposedly was wrapped in cotton his entire childhood couldn't sing a note. He's not green. He has zero talent and never should have gotten to the Hollywood round. I do not think they let him through just to be kind. I think they let him through for the same reason they let Crazy Dave and Taylor Hicks through -- novelty.

Grin...no need to be honored. My opinions are worth exactly the same as everyone else's around here. And you know what that means. ;-)

Teasing aside, we're still in the taped episodes from last summer. I guess back then the AI honchos must have thought laying on the schlock reality show junk thicker than usual is what they needed for big ratings this year. I guess we can't argue with them, because the ratings have been remarkable.

But I miss the emphasis on the singing.

Thanks for telling me, pbear. Maybe I'm not going crazy afterall. I keep wondering what I'm missing that everyone seems to see in that Taylor Hicks guy.

I know we haven't seen all the singers yet, but so far I think that kid and the undertaker are the best guys. I think that dark-haired kid has a ton of potential and, if he gets a fair shake from the judges, will give the girls a run for their money this year. Now if only someone would do somethig about his ugly hairstyle. :-)

I like the maturity and richness in his voice for one only 16 (am I right about that?). The hair can be dealt with, he seems to have a winning personality. When the mini-Sinatra's sang 'Fly Me to the Moon', we really sat up and noticed when he did his part.

Taylor has some appeal and the twins, D&T, have none.

he was the one who went last, right? If so, he was the only one in the group who sounded like himself singing that song, and not doing a Sinatra or Dean Martin impersonation.

Yes, IIRC, he went last. Of course I don't remember his name. Wolfstar is right though, he does need a new 'do.

Don't know his age, but I think he is still a teenager. I thought he stood out in both the auditions phase and last night in that group.

I think there are several guys with good voices in the competition this year, but few who have "the whole package," meaning decent looks, a bit of charisma, and the ability to connect with an audience. I think this kid just might have it all.

The twins are awful. They do have decent singing voices, but it takes a lot more than that to make it in the music business.

I think he did go last in that group. I remember him from the auditions round, too. He has very dark curly or wavy hair that he combs foward over his forehead almost into his eyes. Picture the old Beatles hairdo, except with curly or wavy hair. So far, of those we've seen, he and the undertaker have shown the most potential of the guys, in my opinion.

There are some other guys with really good voices, but who appear to be lacking in looks/charisma/performance skills. Of course, once they start peforming live, any of them could suddenly shine.

Did further research (went to AI website). I think his name is David Radford. A lot of them seem to like Jason Horn (the embalmer) as well. I don't remember him from last night.
