Yes, but he is only in one episode of that show.
He plays an Ultimate Fighter.

Once again a very talented person from Birmingham, ALabama! Now my question is when AI has had one AI from B'ham and one runner up, why won't they hold auditions here?? It is a large, city AND they can have our southern charm to boot. :)
To: silent_jonny
Darnit, I missed it. I hope my timer on the DVR worked...I'm still trying to figure it out.

Good one, maggie!
Tonight's contestants were painful. (Except the very last guy). The only thing worse was the rebuttal to the SOU by that fruity Virginia Governor.

(((Yawn)))
Well, a whole lot of nothing happened last night. The self-deluded were more subdued than their counterparts in the first four cities, and the talented numbered few and far between. What we saw last night was a whole bunch of mediocrity... including a lot of "not bad, but not American Idol either".
In other words, Vegas crapped out.
As for the three that they showed who did make it...
- Mecca Madison -- 18? I'd have a hard time believing she was even 14. She sings with a pleasant, light, tone, but I don't see or hear anything about her that says "star" to me. Also, she has one of my least favorite bad habits: using her hands to follow relative pitch up and down.
- Heather Ward -- Despite choosing a country song, her voice has a "gospel" feel to it, which I'm guessing is her more natural style. "Redneck Girl" helped her stand out in the initial audition, but I've seen better gospel singers already from previous cities.
- Taylor Hicks -- As much as I think he has a great voice, he needs a lot of work on image and presence. Even if he can stop looking like he's 40 (BTW, the banner said he's 29, isn't 28 still the age limit?), he needs to do much, much better making eye contact with his audience. I wonder if he's used to playing guitar while he sings... he was looking down as if checking his finger positions.
Next up: Austin, (not quite) TX

Vegas crapped out. Yeah, last night was just weird, not only with AI, but also with the timing of the SOTU following right on it's heels.

I hate that too! It looks pretentious. Everything about this girl looked pretentious to me. I predict attitude problems when she gets to Hollywood.

No, it's 29--and that means 29 at the time of the audition. It's okay to turn 30 during the competition, like Constantine last year.

Good eye :)

He needs some fine-tuning, I agree (like stopping those odd facial expressions while he sings), but I hope he doesn't change too much. If he dyes his hair he'll be lost in the crowd.

Hey..I was listening to Rick and Bubba this morning and they were talking about Taylor Hicks. Evidently he has some following and he has a website: www.TaylorHicks.com. I hope he does well. ;) Did you get the photo in the above post from his website?
To: silent_jonny
Balding, bad teeth and a mullet.
To: silent_jonny
It looks pretentious. Forget pretentious... it's annoying and it's a crutch for a capella singing.

I'm so glad you guys thought Mecca was annoying, too.

Could she be this seasons....
