Well, wth, all the screenwriters live in blue states, pubbie school grads w/absolutely zero, or very close to zero, knowledge of practical geography.
The writers blow and blow off other inarguable facts in the name of entertainment, too, and I've mixed views on this.
Isn't the purpose of video (TV/film) entertainment to tell a story that keeps one coming back for more? I think so; some soap operas have been running for 30 years and more, correct? (sorry, last soap opera I watched was named ''Hill Street Blues''; I'm unquestionably out of date here...if such a thing is possible).
Imagine this: 'Dad, I told you I didn't go down to Lauderdale for spring break. I was in the Iowa (or Kansas, or Nebraska) Mountains those two weeks'.
7:40 A.M.
Logan comes to see his wife and she apologizes for making a scene. Martha thinks that Palmer was killed because of her. She explains that Palmer had called her yesterday and wanted to meet about something involving national security and Logan. The President wonders why Palmer didnt call him directly, but Martha points out that he shut Palmer out of the White House. She was his only access. Martha realizes that her husband doesnt believe her. "I am not crazy!" she exclaims. Logan promises that he will have Cummings look into it. He sweetly asks her to get ready for the Russian presidents visit.
8:25 A.M.
Jack asks Wayne if Palmer had done or said anything out of the ordinary. Wayne thought that Palmer was distracted. Jack pulls up an encrypted file and Wayne realizes it is the first chapter of the Presidents memoir. They compare it to printed versions to figure out why this one was encrypted.
8:33 A.M.
Wayne sees that his brother added a name and address in the middle of a sentence. Jack has Chloe look up the name Chevensky at 16 Transport Way. The name and address are of a baggage handler at the Ontario Airport.
8:58 A.M.
Jack finds Chevenskys office and pulls his gun on the man, demanding to know why Palmer was killed. Nathansons men set off a bomb to explode their van. Jack hears the noise and looks into the hallway. As he steps away, Chevensky takes a poison pill.
Not only do I find it extremely intruiging why Palmer was calling FLOTUS, but Jack is as confused about the reason for Palmer's assassination as I am. Clearly Palmer knew something (he had two years or so to work on things). Remember, he was involved in an operation in Serbia several years ago with Jack, and they were working on eliminating all those people. Now there's a Chechnian element in this. There's a link here somewhere to all that.
Sounds like the Gecko in the Geico ads running now !
Okay....I'm hooked....please add me to the ping list.....but.....WAAAAHHHHH....I missed the 3rd hour of the 4 hour Premier.......trying to find a synopsis here.
No question, Chloe is a geek's dream girl. I bet she ends up with Jack though.
see post #2442
Last Season Palmer saved Logan's butt. Logan resented Palmer being the leader he knows he wasn't and banned all access to the White House from Palmer, so Palmer was trying to use the life time friendship with the President's wife to get information in.
The premise is a bit goofy, because there are two characters tonight that were featured that the Ex President had a relationship with.
#1 the Chief of Staff
#2 the Secret Service Agent who once was his guard.
Quite a very intersting comment made by Logan about he screaming he wants the situation FIXED and not caring what it takes. Tom Clancy wrote a novel about that very thing: an innoccuous statement by a President, and his aides take him up on it launching military ops in Columbia and shooting down drug dealer planes. There were all kinds of repercussions to that.
Nerve gas.
Yes, probably the California State Legislature.
2) A ''cell phone'' is nothing OTHER than a transmission/reception device. Whether or not it can be remotely reprogrammed depends entirely on its innards. In any case, opsec for this type of op would literally demand that all comms not be able to be compromised at once.
3) Agreed, bad technique as done. However, perhaps it's possible to multichannel through his earpiece (check the scene, he did have it in throughout).
4) The 'cannisters' properties are, as yet, undetermined.
5) Your question is not clear. What were **who** trying to prevent?
6) Who said -- or implied, ever -- that WMD were present at the airport? They may turn out to be, but that fact was not evinced tonight. Was the hole in the concrete necessarily anywhere AROUND the airport? You say 'yes'; I say 'On what evidence?' We do not know when Yellow Tie Guy left or how far he may have gone from the airport...yet.
7) They most certainly DID jam their own cells in order to shut down further cell comms and to hook a desk set into the PA system. No loss for them; they had to (so they thought...major mistake of course) get Bauer to come out.
8) The screenwriting about FLOTUS is very weak, quite right and a good point you made. Can't win on all fronts all the time.
9) Ditto 8). One would presume a FLOTUS who was thought to be psychotic or paranoiac would be under continuous observation at all times.
10) Codes change weekly or monthly, simple ordinary security; the less credible part of this was that the tango didn't rake his weapon across Bauer's lips immediately after disconnect, for trying to reveal ANY facts about his situation. In any case, where is it known to the viewer that Curtis was either involved in or heading up the assault or other critic team 18 months ago?
Net bottom line? 24 is a very entertaining fantasy based **somewhat** on reality. The magic words are: 'suspension of disbelief'.
Fair enough?
Please add me to your ping list for 24. Thank you.
Gee, until now, I never even knew I had a radio show (well, aside from broadcasting hockey in 1972, of course).
It's always great to meet an old fan of those broadcasts!
FReegards!
Until this season, I thought fer sher Chloe was asexual. I just about choked on my chips when I saw her in bed with that dweeb guy. What's even weirder was I thought he was too dweeby for Chloe.
That was Sunday's premier.....I NEED the first hour of tonights....although I've sorta gotten the gist of it here....thanks.
I think he could have contacted his old Chief of Staff who works for this President or the Secret Service Guy who used to guard him who now works for Logan.
Can we get Flank2 into the FR lexicon?
I don't know but I am using "YTG" from now on.
