Last Season Palmer saved Logan's butt. Logan resented Palmer being the leader he knows he wasn't and banned all access to the White House from Palmer, so Palmer was trying to use the life time friendship with the President's wife to get information in.

The premise is a bit goofy, because there are two characters tonight that were featured that the Ex President had a relationship with.
#1 the Chief of Staff
#2 the Secret Service Agent who once was his guard.

I know. That's what had me scratching my head too. And the Chief of Staff would certainly listen to Palmer, especially since I'm pretty certain he knows he's dealing with a fully bitten rabid moonbat (and not a mere half-bitten Howard Dean type of moonbat).

Quite a very intersting comment made by Logan about he screaming he wants the situation FIXED and not caring what it takes. Tom Clancy wrote a novel about that very thing: an innoccuous statement by a President, and his aides take him up on it launching military ops in Columbia and shooting down drug dealer planes. There were all kinds of repercussions to that.

1 the Chief of Staff

Remember he lost faith in Mike Novak in season 3 because of him plotting against him. In season 4 they still had a tense relationship.
