Request for Help - Getting the Flock Out of Here

I need some advice, and this group may be able to help. A flock of geese (Canada) has landed on the water next to our house and has apparently decided that water and my lawn are where they would like to winter over. We had this happen a few years ago, and they tore the daylights out of my lawn and left enough "fertilizer" to last a lifetime. My two labs are pretty good at dispersing them (the younger is nicknamed "Goosechaser"), but this bunch is persistent and keeps coming back. I am thinking of taking it to the next level. It is out of season, and I live within the Annapolis city limits, so firearms are not an option. However, I am thinking "air rifle." I don't know that much about them, but I was thinking kind of low velocity and steel BBs rather than pellets (need to be eco-friendly and all that). I am thinking that a few pellets to the rump ought to cause a goose no lasting harm but, combined with the dogs, might encourage them to move on. Thoughts?

They like to settle in areas where there is grass and an easy transition to water. If you block the access to the water with brush or perhaps some artificail barrier or temporary fence, they won't like the area as much.

Thanks. I don't know if it will work, but my yellow lab came back from his morning out with goose dung all over his back (rolling in it of course). The black one may have it too -- you just don't notice it on him until you get downwind. So, I clearly need to try something. I'll report on the results.

IF the dogs don't work, I can't imagine beaning them with bbs would. Plus, I think you stand a good chance of injuring them.

Put up a few lawn signs with this picture on them:
Make sure you angle them away from your neighbor's homes or any area where small children might see them.
Be careful with them--they are very powerful.

Geese are tough, esp in the winter (full set of feathers). Air ammo likely not to work. Try dogs and fencing. Do NOT try poison for several reasons including the feds and other animals.

Right--less sticky that way.

vis·cous (vĭs'kəs) adj. Having relatively high resistance to flow. Viscid; sticky. I had a dog like that once. Couldn't get his butt off the porch. Seems like he was glued to it!

Your suggestion makes a lot of sense. Frau Blau is hunting for some old sheets right now. She has chased them a few times just running at them and waving her arms, so this idea really appeals to her. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks.

I think that you should quietly (while nobody's looking, you could get into a lot of trouble for this) invite one or more of the geese inside for dinner...

How about blow up alligators? They work to scare off herons.
How about setting up some of the motion sensor sprinklers?

Inflatable alligators might work, but have you ever tried to make one into a purse?

I'm not sure the Madame Moonbat pics would work. They are, remember, Canadian geese.

Put something in the area that makes a sound like one of their predators.
