The Hannity Show (Radio): How many times will he say "great American" per show?
Vanity ^ | January 7, 2006 | Vanity

Posted on 01/07/2006 5:44:11 AM PST by mcg2000

Earlier today, a few of us were talking about the satirically campy exchanges that occur all too often on Hannity's radio program. jaop

As much as Willie Cunningham is loved, he should be flogged for introducing Hannity to the phrase "great American".

On average, how many times per show will Hannity and a guest call each other "great Americans"? We counted 9 during the last hour of his show; pre-Christmas vacation.

It's been a point of curiousity, besides .... good-golly, geez, it's such a swell topic for pals to talk about!

Kinda of like a bad joke gone stale i.e. the Mike Tyson and David Letterman routine ---> "you're the man." "No. you're the man." repeat 5x

Is this small circle of friends the only individuals who've grown increasingly tired of these exchanges?

---- Hannity's program is a dime a dozen without really bringing any uniqueness to the table. His key to success is following Limbaugh. Is there a national contract or sales push agreement for prior programing (I'm not sure who represents EIB)?

---- Does anyone else have a letdown after listening to Limbaugh - going into Hannity? Limbaugh is on the forefront of ideas, while Hannity is just a daily review of what has already happened. Not a very strong independent thinker imop.

---- Hannity is too predictable .... when O'Reilly talks about kool-aid drinkers .... well ....

feedback anyone?

Dittoes is used on Rush about the same.

Here in Detroit, Sean doesn't follow Rush but has done so well that he is being moved to afternoon drive time.

If you don't like him, why are you listening?

Not a big deal. I think people are just saying "megadittos, Sean."

The only thing I don't like is "Now more than ever".

Step 1: Stop listening to Hannity.

Step 2: Repeat Step 1.

It's just that simple. You're wasting your time listening to his show if you're trying to learn anything. Hannity may as well stop with the smart-making, pick up some pom poms, and lead his audience in some cheers.

"Gimme an 'R'! Gimmie and 'E' Gimmie a 'P' Gimmie a 'U'...."

Just be glad he is a great American. For all his flaws at least he's on our side. Would you rather have Al Franken or Michael Moore filling his time slot? Let's hear it for ALL great Americans!! I'm one, you're one and Sean is one!!!

I think one of Sean's best aspects is that he is gentler than Rush and more apt to entice those on the left who can't tolerate hardcore Rush to at least consider conservative views. There are probably tons of former lefties who began with Sean and eventually moved onto Rush.

a couple of replies ....

#1 his heart is in the right place, that's agreed.

#2 he does have to do something to separate himself from Rush (gentler) and open his market a little broader to fans.

#3 turnoff the radio? I hear ya and understand. The only other options would be Dave Ramsey, Dr. Dean and Sports Talk that is redundant after 8am.

#4 "now more than ever" is a good hook.

#5 "ditto" is a quick exchange that lasts no more than 2-3 seconds as an intro into a new topic. The "great American" comment generally leads to other superficial thank you's, explanations and definitions of why someone is great (usually the same responses and critiques).

I basically stopped listening to Hannity about 6 months ago.

I simply could no longer take the constant book promoting and asking the same question five different ways.

Quite frankly, Sean is in fact a "Great American" but comes off as having the IQ of a turnip.

When he does have bright and interesting quests on, he asks the most banal and stupid questions my 10 year old could answer.

At least Medved on the same time slot actually uses his brain and books quests on the show that are articulate and though provoking.

Not any more!  In case you missed it on the MI board:

Hannity Live, Levin Joins Lineup
Beginning Monday, January 9th, our afternoon programming line up will alter slightly as we strive to keep you Michigan’s best informed radio audience

Hannity & Levin

Looks like the market has spoken, the left just lost one of it's biggest mouthpieces of the left.

It really amazes me that some people here will bash the second most popular talk show host in America, who happens to promote conservative values and the Republican party. Sean is more humble than many in that business and he's bringing people to our side on issues. I appreciate what he's doing and I support him regardless of these juvenile complaints.

If someone does not like Sean Hannity, don't listen to his program. It can't get much simpler than that.

Gosh .. the phrase that really bugs me is his constant repeating of "intellectually honest".

Here's my reply for what it's worth...and I don't get to listen to Hannity unless I'm travelling. Anyone who talks publicly that much will find himself reusing the same phrases. When I listen to our pastors talk, I hear the same expressions used over and over. And I bet that if anyone analyzed the speech of any of us here, we'd find that we do that same thing.

Just my useless 2 cents.

I listen to Hannity when I travel and always enjoy him. I've been listening to Rush every day for 13 years and still think he's the best.

Since when is anyone above criticism? And don't you think that knowing what you are doing wrong, is the basis for improvement?

If someone does not like Sean Hannity, don't listen ..

Criticizing Sean doesn't mean you don't like him or that you disagree with him. You really need to lighten up. It can't get much simpler than that.

Even though he ripped off the "Great American" from Willie I can live with it. What I have trouble with is when Sean has a really good guest on, say Ollie North and he asks him a question and then proceeds to recite everyone of his talking points from the past 4 years. By the time he's done the guest says, yes or no and they go to a brake or Sean off on another question where he gives the answer again. Let the guests talk.
