Just finished an excellent bio of the Beatles by Bob Spitz. It covers everything from the very beginning right up to the breakup. Its long but I highly recommend it.

I recommend the 21-book series by Patrick O'Brian (Aubrey/Maturin) - there are rumors that a sequel will be made. A classic moment from the series involves a debauched sloth. You will have to read to find out why.

Also recommend : JRR Tolkien, Ursula LeGuin.

Have recently obtained a collection of essays by Vaclav Havel. Excellent excellent writings.

Also been reading Dark Night of the Soul and Interior Castle (the latter by St. Theresa of Avila) - great reads for those on a spiritual path.

I also recommend Thomas Merton. Very inspirational to me.

and my newest fluff is an author, Nora Novik who has combined inspiration from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern and Patrick O'Brian, "His Majesty's Dragon." Its not brilliant writing and sometimes reads as very very good fanfiction, but it *is* tightly written with a good clear plot and characterizations.

I'll finish Consent to Kill: A Thriller -- by Vince Flynn tonight. Ecellent book.

I enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha -- by Arthur Golden
Prior Bad Acts -- by Tami Hoag
The Rosary Girls: A Novel of Suspense -- by Richard Montanari
Undaunted Courage : Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West (Lewis & Clark Expedition) -- by Stephen E. Ambrose

I read some books and listen to others that I download from Audible.com on my portable audio player.

I just wish the audiobook industry wasn't so damned spotty with what they publish. I can find no rhyme or reason behind how they publish these titles.

Hell, I've even seen many new audiobooks as cds available in mp3 format, but no download available.

I share your frustration!

My guess is that they fear file sharing and delay or deny download availability of some titles. But selling a book in .mp3 CD format that could be transferred to a computer hard drive and then spread through file sharing nullifies my guess. Except, the latter would require a bit more effort.

Finally ordered Enemies Foreign And Domestic, yeah I procrastinate so sue me. Love it and I already read half way through in 2 days. The beauty of it is I read it at work mostly and people come up to me and say "HEY whats that about?" You know the Gov and they're quest to erode our personal libertys starting with the salt of the bill o rights, the second Amendment. They say predictably, "WELL GUNS ARE BAAAAD", and we start debating. Gets a good discussion going.

I love audiobooks. I think I've listened to McMurtry's "Duane's Dperessed" eight times on walks.

McMurtry's one of my favorite writers. I think I've read all of his.

What a coincidence. Today is Doyle's birthday and Google's logo of the day is a profile of Holmes.
