There was strong voter turnout across Iraq in the Parliamentary elections there.
450,000 are without power in the south after an ice storm has moved through North Carolina, Virginia (fine where I am), and West Virginia.
And despite state law to the contrary, transit workers in New York city are preparing to go on strike tonight at midnight.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Right after I got up this morning our power flickered off just momentarily and came right back on. Soooo, I'm all set for a day at home catching up on FReeping, right?
Wrong! The cable was off and so was the internet ... ALL day. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!
A historic day in world history as well as a day when I really want to keep up with local news and weather and I have neither tv nor the internet until just a little while ago ... :-(
Our part of the world is still quite icy but the roads are ok. Tomorrow morning may be a different matter as temps are supposed to drop into the upper 20s and there is still a lot of water on the roads. And for tonight and in the morning they are predicting ICE FOG. I have never heard of such a thing ... and think I was better off not knowing it existed.
I was in the same boat as you, although not due to weather. My son's computer wasn't working and the TV was on cartoons all day, when it was on. I did listen to radio some, but it was very frustrating to not be able to get on the computer.
Now I am hanging on until I can go to bed in a few minutes. I didn't get enough sleep last night, but didn't want to go to bed too early. I am soooo tired.
Ice fog? Strange doings in your area. If it happens, give us a description tomorrow?

It has been a historic day. I have to agree with Rush, this election was another loss at the polls for the RATS. It is wonderful to think of them standing, cold and dejected, in their little corners snarling as we celebrate FREEDOM.
Freedom is such an intoxicating idea. I don't think I have hidden from y'all that at times I have been in a corner of the world where the locals want to separate from the national government. I will never forget one summer in July when the talk of rebellion was reaching a boiling point. The local young men would ride around on their motorcycles, brandishing their weapons yelling, "freedom, freedom, freedom." The idea of being able to decide your own leaders, make your own laws, impose your own taxes and forge your own alliances instead of having them imposed upon you against your will, gave the locals the strength to make at least token stands.
The situation has settled down for the time being. However, the light freedom hasn't left. The locals are continually flying their own sepratist flag, often at the cost of a life or two, and are meeting in conclaves here or there to discuss the next strategy.
It is the desire for freedom which keeps their hopes alive.
Today was historic for the people of Iraq.

An ice storm is incredibly beautiful ... and terribly destructive. In the Charlotte area today several trees fell on houses; one hit a man who was on his sofa watching tv and killed him.
A tree came down in the woods behind us this afternoon but no harm was done except to the tree.
It has been a long day and I'm tired. I will check with the group in the morning. Nitey night.

Hi, Kay. Good to see you here. Your day was much worse thand mine. I got some flickers but mostly had electricity all day. I'm waiting to see what ice fog looks like tomorrow morning too! Can you imagine having freezing rain, ice, and ice fog...and then 50 degrees in the afternoon? It IS December, isn't it? lol
Once when we lived in the eastern part of the state we had a BIG snowstorm ... dumped something like 17" on us. Two days later I was trying to dig my car out of the snow (hubby had already gotten his out so he could drive to work) ... I was wearing shorts and boots and was swatting mosquitos (really!) and the temp was 70 degrees. Winter in the South is definitely interesting.
I have hit the wall. Gret is on which means I have made it past 10PM. Now I am going to bed and trying to sleep through the night! See you tomorrow!
Sorry I missed you, Jane. We've just returned from our gc's Christmas Program. The 2 older ones are in Catholic School, the next 3 younger ones are in Catholic Pre School in the same facility.
The children were dismissed after their part in the program was over to sit with their parents and grandparents to enjoy the rest of the show (and so the teachers didn't have to watch them and keep them occuplied)
So,,,,,,,,, during the very last scene, when the Manger was pulled to Center Stage, the youngest preschooler climbed on my lap to get a better view of Baby Jesus.
Just as the 6th grade girl gently laid the baby in the manger, my little guy said, right out loud with a really astonished inflection in his voice:
"That's not baby Jesus. That's KEVIN". (Kevin goes to my gc's daycare). The solemnity of the momment was lost. Totally lost.
LOL! That's the sort of thing that makes children's programs truly memorable and adorable.
My DIL was mortified. She's young (33). Everybody else laughed.
