It's 4:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, and I can't sleep. When I find myself awake and alert in the middle of the night, I do the following:
Toss
Turn
Go to the bathroom
Get a drink of water
Stretch
Toss
Turn
Get up

So Freepers, please give me some suggestions on what to do! What do you do when you're wide awake in the middle of the night?
I've gone a week at 4 hours a day, working 10 hour days, riding my bike 7 miles to work... but then I was much younger. That was in my late 40's. I am now 51, so I need maybe 5 hours :>)
Aspirin for restless leg syndrome.
I cure insomnia with a glass of milk. I also refuse to let myself go over things in my mind or think about the next day's agenda. I can blank out my thoughts by concentrating on comfort--fluff the pillows, use cozy blanket, etc.
If you have a severe and continuing problem, try going to a sleep lab.
Not me - I'd get so mad, my blood pressure would rise, my anxiety level would explode and depression would hit hard. That kind of anger doesn't promote sleepiness.
I usually get up and get online play my game and read the news or sometimes I start on my homework researching current topics to write my paper on which is between 750-2400 word paper.
I will write until my eyes cross and i get sooo sleepy I go get in bed after I wrestle my pillows, my half of the blankets from my hubby and settle down and fall into a contented sleep.
Hope you get some rest :) good luck
I've been freeping for the past hour. I woke up at 4:00 still composing a letter in my head to a friend who used her Christmas letter to rail against our image overseas. I've been toying with either telling her to start hanging out with a ~better class~ of Europeans or that the Europeans have NO moral authority to judge the United States on any anything we do. I am just so angry; she lives in New York City and saw, first hand, what happened on 9/11. She is so intelligent but yet unable to 'connect the dots'.
Think I go start some Christmas cookies instead.
Have a Merry Christmas and try to get some sleep :-)
Diphenhydramine.
